This Sunday it is not only about drives, scores, and victories: All three matches on German ground will be held under the motto "Let's tackle blood cancer." At the matches in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich, there will be DKMS stands in the stadiums where spectators can register as stem cell donators. This can be a life-saving measure. Games with special DKMS presence Rhein Fire at Berlin Thunder (Preussenstadion, Berlin, 13:00 CET)  Prague Lions at Frankfurt Galaxy (PSD-Bank Arena, Frankfurt, 13:00 CET) Stuttgart Surge at Munich Ravens (Sportpark Unterhaching, 16:25 CET) In addition, the DKMS will also attend the Paris Musketeers at Cologne Centurions (July 19th, 17:00 CET) and Rhein Fire at Hamburg Sea Devils (July 20th, 16:25 CET) games in week 11 and look for more important participants. The same applies to the Championship Game on September 7th, 2025, at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart. Fight against cancer has tradition in American football The fight against cancer has a long tradition in American football. Since many years, the NFL has a themed match day to create awareness for the issue of women's breast cancer. The topic of blood cancer was part of ProSiebenSat.1's NFL coverage for many years. Thanks to the ranNFL community, it was actually possible to save a life. And many new stem cell donators were registered. This is exactly what the European League of Football wants to achieve as well. The aim of the motto Game Week is to sensitize as many people as possible to the topic of stem cell donation and blood cancer and encourage as many fans as possible to register. The DKMS was already an official partner of the European League of Football in the 2024 season – and the response was incredible. On DKMS Game Day in Week 12, tons of fans of Rhein Fire, Hamburg Sea Devils, Munich Ravens, Cologne Centurions, Berlin Thunder, and Stuttgart Surge took the chance to sign up as potential stem cell donors. More than 250 new registrations were achieved on this day alone. Every 27 seconds someone is diagnosed with blood cancer Why is the topic important? For many people with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant is the only chance of a cure if chemotherapy alone is not enough. The donator's stem cells are infused directly into the patient's bloodstream. After the diseased body has absorbed the new stem cells, they settle in the bone cavities and build up a completely new blood system there so that the patient can become healthy again. Every 27 seconds, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. A donation can save lives, and that’s why the ELF wants to raise awareness among as many people as possible. Kyle Kitchens has once again proven why he already has been named ELF Defensive Player of the Year three times. Against the Prague Lions, the 29-year-old American put in a brutal performance, racking up 10 tackles, including eight for loss and an impressive four sacks. The star of the Hamburg Sea Devils narrowly missed his single-game record of 4.5 sacks. Although the defensive end was unable to prevent the narrow 14-19 defeat, he did not make it an easy day for opposing quarterback Javarian Smith and his running backs. Together with his strong defensive line, the experienced DE generated powerful pressure. The Sea Devils' strong secondary also performed well, allowing only 100 passing yards. After his blockbuster transfer from the Berlin Thunder, Kitchens is settling in better and better. After week 6, the A-import can look back on 23 tackles, including eleven for loss and 5.5 sacks. In Week 7, the Madrid Bravos (28th of June, 15:00 CET) await as the next challenge and opportunity for the defensive superstar.

Kicking off Sunday's exciting slate of games, the Prague Lions traveled to Hamburg in this crucial rematch.  Prague Lions @ Hamburg Sea Devils – 19:14 The Prague Lions clawed their way to a win on road against the Hamburg Sea Devils in a defensive slugfest. The game came down to the wire as Hamburg had the ball with under a minute left down 5 points.  Clutch interception  However the Lions defense held keeping the Sea Devils out of the endzone. It was Lucca Fechia the Lions defensive back who made the game winning play intercepting Micah Leon on a hail mary to end the game.  The Lions used several playmakers to move the ball as Willie Patterson, Javarian Smith, Adam Zouzelka, and others all made crucial plays.  The Lions now move to an impressive 3-2 in the East Division while Hamburg fall to 2-4.   

The Hamburg Sea Devils have a pivotal match up this weekend as they host the Prague Lions in a rematch from Week 2. The Sea Devils currently sit at 2-3 approaching the halfway point in the season. One of the things that has been a story line for the Sea Devils has been the quarterback position.  The former Florida Gators quarterback Micah Leon played in most of week one before going down with an injury. Since then the Sea Devils have been 2-2 with both Mortiz Maack and Taulia Tagovailoa starting behind center. Now Leon steps back into the starting role hoping to steady the waves for the Sea Devils.  “I am thrilled to be back. My coaches and teammates have been incredibly supportive throughout my rehabilitation, and I want to prove them right and contribute to our team’s success. “ For the former D1 passer, watching from the sideline unable to help his team was tough.  “It was challenging because, like every player, I wanted to help my team. However, it actually allowed me to learn more about our strengths and weaknesses from a new perspective. “ Despite the ups and down of the season so far, the Sea Devils still have a chance at the playoffs as we aren’t quite at the  halfway point of the season yet. Leon knows his team has the ability to overcome the recent adversity and keep improving. “I’ve come to realize that we are incredibly resilient. We’ve overcome numerous challenges and, as a result, have grown closer together. After a tough loss to reigning champions Rhein Fire in Week 5, the Hamburg Sea Devils are looking to bounce back at home. On Sunday, they’ll host the Prague Lions at Stadion Hoheluft in an important inter-division matchup. Kickoff is set for 13:00 CET. Earlier this season, the Sea Devils picked up their first win of the year in Prague. Now, they’re hoping to repeat that success in front of their home crowd – but they know it won’t be easy. Prague on the rise “The game will be much tougher than last time,” said Sea Devils head coach Lee Rowland. “Their offense has improved a lot since we last played them. The Hamburg Sea Devils have announced their final home venue for the upcoming game against the Madrid Bravos. On Saturday, June 28, they will host the Madrid Bravos in a highly anticipated matchup at Sportpark Eimsbüttel. Kickoff is set for 15:00 (3:00 PM) CET. A new venue for a familiar goal After previous home games at Stadion Hoheluft, the Sea Devils are taking a new step by bringing the game to Sportpark Eimsbüttel — a smaller, more intimate venue located right in the center of the city. Strong partnership with the city The decision to host the game in Eimsbüttel was made in close coordination with local authorities. Sea Devils General Manager Mark Weitz emphasized the importance of staying local: “We want to stay in Hamburg,” he said. “We’re happy to have found a home for our game against Madrid. We promised to play five games in Hamburg this season — and we’re sticking to that.” More home games coming Up The Week 7 game will be followed by two more home matchups: one at Stadion Hoheluft on July 6, and a season highlight at the larger Volksparkstadion on July 20. They had a bye week in Week 5, giving them time to rest and fully prepare for their upcoming rematch against Rhein Fire. 2. Stuttgart Surge Previous Ranking: 2 No changes here either. Stuttgart also had a bye week and used it to get ready for their Week 6 game against the Cologne Centurions. 3. Nordic Storm Previous Ranking: 3 The Storm delivered a dominant win over the Frankfurt Galaxy, but rumors of illness within the Galaxy roster make the result harder to evaluate. Still, the Storm stay at #3. 4. Paris Musketeers Previous Ranking: 5 Paris moves up one spot thanks to their bye week and Frankfurt’s loss. They are well-positioned heading into their Week 6 matchup against the Galaxy. 5. Rhein Fire Previous Ranking: 8 Rhein Fire is tough to rank. After offensive struggles in the early season, they dominated the Sea Devils. The addition of Fred Armstrong as Offensive Coordinator could help unlock the potential of this talented roster. 6. Munich Ravens Previous Ranking: 6 The Ravens made quick work of the Helvetic Mercenaries in Week 5. They built a huge lead early and rested starters by the second quarter. Next up: a rematch with Berlin Thunder. 7. Frankfurt Galaxy Previous Ranking: 4 Frankfurt drops after their loss to the Storm, but illness might have affected their performance. They can bounce back quickly with a win over Paris in Week 6. 8. Raiders Tirol Previous Ranking: 10 The Raiders jump two spots after a big win against the Madrid Bravos. Madrid Bravos Previous Ranking: 7 Madrid’s offense is strong, but the defense continues to struggle. They’ve allowed at least 35 points in three games, ranking among the league's worst in both pass and rush defense. 10. The game between the Hamburg Sea Devils and Rhein Fire wasn’t the expected intense contest. The defending champion climb with a 43-0 in the North Division and knocked Hamburg out of second place.  Rhein Fire's new RB Jonathan Scott with strong performance  Last year champion Rhein Fire needed the win to stay in the race for the playoffs and they delivered while dominating on both sides of the ball. The offense game worked successful both on the ground and through the air. The new running back Jonathan Scott finished with 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Chad Jeffries threw three touchdown passes, and the special team also scored once.  Watch the Sea Devils at Fire highlights here! "We will learn from this defeat" After the separation of QB Taulia Tagovailoa was announced just a few hours before the game, Hamburg's Moritz Maack was back on the field. His performance leaves room for improvement, as he threw four interceptions. Even the good performance of Sea Devils running back Chrisman Kyei could not prevent the defeat. "Of course we had hoped for a different result", said Hamburg General Manager Mark Weitz. "It was clear, especially after the changes in the team, that this would not be an easy task. We stand behind our players and will work together to learn from this defeat."  Tough game ahead for Hamburg The Sea Devils return home in Week 6 to face Prague Lions, who are well-rested after a bye week in Week 5. Before the game on Sunday, Hamburg "need a week in which we can fully focus on football – with the necessary intensity and concentration", said team captain Levi Kruse. Hamburg Sea Devils @ Rhein Fire - 0:43 Rhein Fire delivered a commanding performance in Week 5, defeating the Hamburg Sea Devils 43–0 and silencing any doubts after a turbulent week off the field. Following the announcement that head coach Jim Tomsula would not return in 2025 and the departure of offensive coordinator Ed Warinner, all eyes were on Fire’s response — and they answered emphatically. Early control and complete dominance Quarterback Chad Jeffries wasted no time, leading Rhein Fire to an opening-drive touchdown with a 5-yard pass to Justin Schlesinger. From that point on, Fire never looked back. Their offense clicked from the start, showing no signs of the previous struggles. Hamburg, meanwhile, had to adjust without quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, who parted ways with the team earlier in the week for family reasons. Homegrown QB Moritz Maack took over but struggled heavily. He completed just 2 of 12 passes for 7 yards and threw 4 interceptions. Standout performances on both sides of the ball Rhein Fire’s new E-import running back Jonathan Scott was explosive, finishing with 135 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on just 11 carries. The defense also shined — Tony Anderson led the way with 10 tackles and 2 interceptions, while Omari Williams added another interception and returned a punt for a touchdown, extending his lead as the ELF’s all-time interception leader. Looking ahead The Sea Devils, now 2–3, will look to bounce back at home next week against a resurgent Prague Lions squad that’s eager to avenge its earlier loss to Hamburg. Rhein Fire moves to 2–2 and stays in the playoff race. They’ll face a major test in Week 6, traveling to Vienna for a highly anticipated Championship Game rematch with the undefeated Vikings. The Hamburg Sea Devils have announced the departure of quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. The 25-year-old is returning to his home in Hawaii for family reasons. The decision was made mutually between the player and the franchise. Tagovailoa joined the Sea Devils in May and started two games, including both recent home matchups: a strong win against Berlin Thunder and the Week 3 game against the Stuttgart Surge at Bremen’s Weserstadion. Over those two games, he threw for 315 yards and 3 touchdowns, while adding 46 rushing yards. He was intercepted twice. Sea Devils General Manager Mark Weitz expressed his thanks: "We thank Taulia for his commitment over the past weeks and wish him and his family all the best for the future." The quarterback, who was injured in Week 1 against the Madrid Bravos, is expected to return to full training soon. Leon knows the system well and will rejoin the team officially starting next week. For the upcoming Week 5 game against Rhein Fire, Moritz Maack will once again lead the offense as the starting quarterback. The Hamburg Sea Devils will face Rhein Fire this Saturday, June 14, at 18:00 CET in Düsseldorf’s Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. After a strong 31–14 home win over Berlin Thunder, Hamburg enters Week 5 full of confidence. But now, a tough challenge awaits - a road game against the defending champions. Changes in Düsseldorf, confidence in Hamburg It’s been a week of big changes for Rhein Fire. Head Coach Jim Tomsula and Offensive Coordinator Ed Warinner have both left the team. Wide Receiver Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Mario Schulz will take over offensive play-calling as interim OC for the important North Division matchup. A permanent replacement is expected to be announced next week. Despite these changes, Hamburg is preparing for a hard-fought game. Week 4 of the 2025 ELF season gave fans a closer look at some of the most exciting homegrown talents. From game-changing defensive backs to dominant runners and reliable receivers — local players made a major impact on both sides of the ball. Defensive backs become quarterbacks’ nightmare It was a long day for Berlin Thunder quarterback Jakeb Sullivan, who threw four interceptions against the Hamburg Sea Devils. While American DB Nazir Streater picked off two passes, 22-year-old Jeremy Hecker also stood out. The German defensive back made three pass breakups and returned an interception for a touchdown — a highlight moment in Hamburg’s big win. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Finn Schwarzkopf of the Frankfurt Galaxy put on a show in front of the home crowd. Against the Cologne Centurions, Schwarzkopf had a stellar game with two interceptions — one returned for a touchdown — and added a tackle for loss. Strong defense and power running Prague Lions defensive lineman Marek Danik was a major factor in their dominant win over the Wroclaw Panthers. He recorded two sacks and two tackles for loss, disrupting the Panthers’ offensive line all game. His pressure helped keep Wroclaw’s offense out of rhythm. On offense, two running backs stood out. Nicolas Khandar helped the Paris Musketeers defeat Rhein Fire with 106 rushing yards on just 15 carries. His powerful running helped open up the passing game, giving quarterback Jaylon Henderson space to throw four touchdowns. Frankfurt’s Gerald Ameln had a career day against Cologne. With lead back Sandro Platzgummer resting, Ameln took full control — rushing for 170 yards and scoring both a rushing and a receiving touchdown. Trusted target in Vienna In the seventh edition of the Battle of Austria, Vienna Vikings wide receiver Noah Touré proved again why he was the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year. Touré caught three touchdowns and totaled 102 receiving yards, becoming quarterback Ben Holmes’ go-to weapon in the 41–7 win over the Raiders Tirol. As the Vikings enter their first bye week, players like Touré can rest and prepare to continue their great form in the weeks to come. The Hamburg Sea Devils made a triumphant return to their home ground, Stadion Hoheluft, defeating Berlin Thunder 31–14 in front of a passionate home crowd. Despite the heavy rain, the atmosphere was electric, as fans embraced the true Hamburg “Schietwetter” with unwavering enthusiasm. “It was a great feeling to finally be back at Stadion Hoheluft,” said Hamburg General Manager Mark Weitz. “Despite the rain, the mood was fantastic — the fans really celebrated the event with passion. You can feel the team growing closer and more connected on the field. It makes us excited for what’s to come.”   Strong start lays the foundation Hamburg dominated early, setting the tone with a 29-yard pick-six by Jeremy Hecker. Moments later, quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa lit up the field with an 84-yard touchdown pass to Terryon Robinson, sending the crowd into celebration. The Sea Devils continued their momentum with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jean-Claude Madin Cerezo before the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Levi Kruse capped off a solid drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown. Hamburg led 28–0 at halftime — a commanding advantage built through sharp execution. “We started really strong, especially in the first half,” said team captain Levi Kruse. “We slowed down a bit in the second half — that’s something we need to fix. Defense steps up in difficult conditions Heavy rain in the second half made offense more difficult for both teams, but Hamburg’s defense continued to impress. Head Coach Lee Rowland praised his players for their resilience: “It wasn’t a pretty game — the rain made it hard for everyone. Our run game struggled, but I’m very happy with the defense. They did a really good job. There’s still work to do on offense.” A 47-yard field goal from Eric Schlomm added to the Sea Devils’ score in the second half. Berlin found the end zone twice in the final quarter, but the result was never truly in doubt. Looking ahead With the win, Hamburg improves to a 2–2 record. The game couldn't have started more painfully for Berlin Thunder against the Hamburg Sea Devils. The first three drives of the game ended in turnovers. Quarterback Jakeb Sullivan threw two interceptions in the first two drives, including a pick six, and receiver Bais Kouanda fumbled after a big play. Sullivan therefore had to take risks early on and threw a total of 354 passing yards, one passing touchdowns and four interceptions. Thunder finally got into the game in the third quarter. However, the comeback came far too late. Also, because the game was significantly influenced by a total of six turnovers. Berlin Thunder had to take four, the Hamburg Sea Devils two.   Watch the Highlights here! Berlin Thunder at Hamburg Sea Devils: 14:31 The Sea Devils' defense put in a strong performance early on. The offense started the game with a fumble in the first drive, but then scored three touchdowns in a row. Among them was a spectacular 83-yard pass from quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa to Terryon Robinson. The Sea Devils took the momentum early on, something that would not change for the rest of the game. Tagovailoa played well overall, gaining 230 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, but also throwing one interception. Robinson secured 113 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Running back Chrisman Kyei picked up momentum toward the end of the game and racked up 116 rushing yards. Sea Devils defensive superstar Kyle Kitchens, who faced his old team for the first time since his transfer, also had reason to smile. Although the three-time ELF Defensive Player of the Year did not record a sack and only made two tackles (one for loss), he secured an important victory against his former team. The Sea Devils thus go into their Week 5 game against Rhein Fire with a 2-2 record. For Berlin Thunder, it is their third defeat in a row. Saturday brings four exciting matchups across the league, featuring a team still looking for their first win, top performer, a game that will decide the fate of an entire nation and an explosive encounter. Raiders Tirol at Vienna Vikings - 18:00 CET Battle of Austria, Raiders winless and a clash of brothers An absolute ELF top match with many storylines is ahead of us. For the seventh time in the history of the European League of Football, the “Battle of Austria” will take place: Raiders Tirol vs. Vienna Vikings. The Raiders have not won any of the six games yet. Will Week 4 2025 finally be their time? The Vikings are also fighting for their crazy streak, with over 1,000 days without a defeat in the regular season. It will be a particularly emotional game for Vikings defender Lucky Ogbevoen, who was himself a Raider in 2022. His brother Precious Ogbevoen is also a Raider, and he will be facing him in a direct duel. Three-time ELF Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kitchens caused a stir in the offseason when he left Berlin Thunder to join the Hamburg Sea Devils. Now, the two teams are facing each other for the first time since the superstar's transfer. Based purely on statistics, the move has not yet paid off for Kitchens (nine tackles, one sack). So perhaps the reunion is coming at just the right time. Madrid Bravos at Fehévár Enthroners - 19:00 CET Will Bravos high-flyers continue their run? Enthroners want first victory Meanwhile, quarterback Reid Sinnet and his top receiver Aron Cruickshank from the Madrid Bravos have really taken off, judging by the stats. Sinnet leads the league with 1,000 passing yards after just three games. The former NFL player throws almost ten yards per pass. He also has nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Meanwhile, his US teammate Cruickshank leads the receiver list in terms of receiving yards. His quarterback threw to him 30 times, and the 24-year-old caught the ball 30 times. Their physical defense and big-play offense have impressed, and they’ll get a real test in Week 4 when they take on Stuttgart Surge. 6. Frankfurt Galaxy Previous Ranking: 7 A last-second field goal gave Frankfurt the edge over Paris. Matthew McKay and the offense were explosive early, while the defense dominated for most of the game. Though they nearly let it slip away, Galaxy showed they can contend with the league’s best. 7. Paris Musketeers Previous Ranking: 3 Despite a late comeback, the Musketeers' offense struggled for most of the game. Their defense couldn’t hold Frankfurt early either. They’ll need to find consistency on both sides to rise again. 8. Madrid Bravos Previous Ranking: 8 The Bravos earned their second win of the season, but defensive issues remain. On Saturday, the Stuttgart Surge made an enormous statement, dismantling the Hamburg Sea Devils 53-14 in a one-sided affair at Bremen’s Weserstadion. After a disappointing loss to the Paris Musketeers in Week 2, the Surge bounced back in dominant fashion, controlling all three phases of the game and handing Hamburg a rough start to their home campaign. Stuttgart wasted no time asserting themselves. On the very first play, Hamburg quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa - brother of NFL star Tua Tagovailoa - threw a pick-six to Surge defensive back Raheem Simiram-Wilson. It was a nightmare start for the Sea Devils and set the tone for the evening. “When you’ve had a tough day like the offense did last week, it obviously helps a lot when you come out and make some big plays and get some good plays,” said Surge head coach Jordan Neuman. “I expected us to come back today and show our strengths.” And they showed them indeed. The Hennessey-Geyer duo, which had been quiet against Paris, lit up the field. Quarterback Reilly Hennessey threw three touchdown passes to wide receiver Louis Geyer in the first half, rediscovering their chemistry just when it mattered.  Stuttgart's defense on fire The Surge defense, however, may have stolen the show. In addition to Simiram-Wilson’s opening pick-six, defenders Mitch Fettig, Julian Ludwig Mayorga, Nick Wenzelburger, Berend Grube, and Marko Vidackovic all recorded interceptions. Lasse Engel even turned a broken-up pass into another pick-six. Constant pressure up front - highlighted by sacks from Chris Mulumba and Robert Lachmann - left Hamburg’s offense in disarray. Linebacker Nikolas Knoblauch, who produced 10 tackles against the Sea Devils, continued his run of dominant performances. “We have to stay focused,” said Sea Devils general manager Mark Weitz after the game. “Even though things didn’t go our way on the field, we saw what our fans bring to this team - goosebumps.” Despite the heavy loss, the support in the stands was unwavering. The Weserstadion was electric, but the Sea Devils simply could not match Stuttgart’s pace or precision.  A rough first act for Division I QB Tagovailoa All eyes were on Taulia Tagovailoa in his ELF debut, but it was an outing to forget. Completing just 5 of 17 passes, Tagovailoa was hounded by a relentless Stuttgart pass rush and threw one interception which was returned for a touchdown. While the talent is there, Saturday’s game was a harsh introduction to the speed and complexity of the Stuttgart Surge defense. The Sea Devils replaced him at halftime with Moritz Maack, who brought more stability and added two touchdown passes in the second half. How far can the Surge go? The Stuttgart Surge will now return home to face the Munich Ravens on Sunday, June 8th, in what promises to be an explosive South German derby. With their offense back in rhythm and the defense firing on all cylinders, they will enter the matchup with high confidence. For the Hamburg Sea Devils, it is back to the drawing board. But they will do so at a meaningful venue - returning to the historic Stadion Hoheluft for the first time in over a year to host the Berlin Thunder. Week 3 of the European League of Football is here! We already saw a lot of highlights in the first two weeks of the season. Here is a recap of the third game of Week 3. Stuttgart Surge at Hamburg Sea Devils Score: 53-14 The Stuttgart Surge dominated the Hamburg Sea Devils in Week 3. The Surge established a huge lead early, leading 40–0 at halftime. Quarterback Reilly Hennessey contributed with an efficient 3 touchdown game through the air. Hennessey was able to find Geyer three times for 118 yards and three scores.  Overall, the Surge defense was the story in this game, scoring on special teams and forcing 3 interceptions. Overall they held the Sea Devils to 107 yards passing and had 4 sacks. This game was huge for the Surge as they bounce back from last week’s defeat in Paris with a resounding win.  It was a very hard debut for Hamburg's new quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. Paris Musketeers at Frankfurt Galaxy - Defense vs Firepower The Musketeers' defense was outstanding in Week 2, holding the high-powered Surge offense to zero points. But while the defense has been elite, the Paris offense has only scored 21 points across two games. That needs to change quickly — especially against a Galaxy team that just scored 47 points in a thrilling shootout win over Madrid. This matchup is also key in the West Division race. A win for either side could set the tone for who might lead the division in the coming weeks. Vienna Vikings at Rhein Fire - A championship rematch This is the big one. The Vienna Vikings are 2-0 and look sharp on both sides of the ball. But now comes their toughest challenge yet: Rhein Fire. Fire had a bye week in Week 2 and used that time to prepare for this game — one that brings back memories of the 2024 Championship Game, where they beat the Vikings to become back-to-back champions. Both teams are undefeated. Both want to prove they’re still the best. Expect fireworks. Plenty on the line this weekend — bragging rights, division battles, and championship dreams. Prague Lions at Fehérvár Enthroners - 15:00 CET Who Gets Their First Win? Both the Lions and the Enthroners are still searching for their first victory of the 2025 season. This game is a must-win for both sides. The Prague Lions suffered a tough loss against the Sea Devils in Week 2. Poor discipline and a weak run defense led to their defeat. The Enthroners, meanwhile, were beaten badly by the Vienna Vikings and lost their starting quarterback Brock Domann to injury. Now, homegrown quarterback Máté Hegedüs will step up and try to lead his team to their first win in front of their home fans. Raiders Tirol at Cologne Centurions - 17:00 CET Time to Respond The Raiders bounced back in Week 2 with a big win over the Helvetic Mercenaries, even after losing their quarterback Conor Miller early in the game. After the injury to Micah Leon and a solid Week 2 victory over the Prague Lions, the Hamburg Sea Devils are preparing for their next big challenge: a home game against the Stuttgart Surge. Making his highly anticipated ELF debut in Bremen's Weserstadion will be newly signed American quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, and he’s coming in with one clear goal: to win.  "I'm here to win games. Of course, it takes time to learn the system and build chemistry with the receivers, but I'm working hard. I firmly believe that we can deliver a strong game against Stuttgart", he said on Wednesday. "I know the Surge have a good team, they’ve got a good defense", said Tagovailoa ahead of the matchup, "and this week we’re trying to figure out ways by watching film how to attack their defense. I know they’re going to come out and play hard like they always do, but we will do our job and execute to win this game." That's the confidence of an American quarterback. Right timing, right fit The Sea Devils acted fast after Leon’s injury. General Manager Mark Weitz shared insight into how the signing came together: "Taulia was released maybe one week before Micah got injured, so we just thought, well, let’s take our chances and see. I texted him over social media and got a good response, so we tried to take our shot. In the end, it worked out and we’re very happy to have him." Tagovailoa had just become a free agent when the Sea Devils reached out - and it didn’t take long for both sides to find common ground. The younger brother of Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa, sees his new role as an opportunity - and a challenge: "After my time in the CFL, I was at a point where I didn't know what to do next. Then Mark reached out - and suddenly everything happened very quickly. I was on a plane to Hamburg within two days. I'm grateful for this new opportunity to play football and continue living my dream." "I'm not here to rest on my laurels" Tagovailoa brings more than talent - he brings ambition. "The Sea Devils brought me here for one reason, and that’s to win football games and to bring championships to this franchise", he said. "I’m working with coaches and the players - obviously, things are moving pretty fast right now. My number one goal is coming to Hamburg and making a difference to the team." When asked what characterizes him as a quarterback, he answers confidently but down-to-earth: "Leadership - for sure. I was a starter in college, played in big stadiums. But what counts is hard work. Now it’s time for the offense to prove itself too. 4. Stuttgart Surge Previous Ranking: 1 After an impressive Week 1, the Surge fall to fourth following a disappointing performance on offense. Their defense still looked elite, but now the offense must bounce back. 5. Nordic Storm Previous Ranking: 4 Even with a strong win over Wroclaw, Nordic Storm drop one spot due to Paris' big result. Still, they remain one of the top teams in the league. A win against Berlin Thunder in Week 3 could reinforce that. 6. Munich Ravens Previous Ranking: 8 Rookie QB Russell Tabor proved the doubters wrong with a stellar outing in the win over Berlin. The Ravens head into their bye week with strong momentum. 7. Frankfurt Galaxy Previous Ranking: 9 Galaxy dominated on the ground against the Bravos and scored a big win in a shootout. If they can beat the Musketeers in Week 3, they’ll continue to climb. 8. Madrid Bravos Previous Ranking: 7 Madrid drop one spot after losing to Frankfurt. While the offense showed potential, defensive struggles and too many penalties cost them. 9. Wroclaw Panthers Previous Ranking: 6 The Panthers looked good in stretches, but couldn’t keep up with the Storm for four full quarters. For now, they land in the middle of the pack. 10. Raiders Tirol Previous Ranking: 10 The Raiders earned a dominant win over the Mercenaries, but lost their starting QB Conor Miller to injury. His health will be key going forward. 11. Hamburg Sea Devils Previous Ranking: 11 Hamburg picked up their first win of the season behind a strong running game and tough defense. With new QB Taulia Tagovailoa set to debut in Week 3, they could move up quickly if they perform well. 12. Week 2 of the ELF 2025 season once again showed how important homegrown talent is to the league. Several local players stepped up with standout performances on both offense and defense. Here are our Top Homegrowns of the Week! Running back trio steals the show In Week 2, it wasn’t just the quarterbacks making headlines — it was the running backs who took over the spotlight. Lucas Harting Candido played a key role in the Hamburg Sea Devils’ win over the Prague Lions, forming a dangerous backfield duo with Chrisman Kyei. Candido rushed for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns, showing why he is considered one of the most talented RBs in the league. In Frankfurt, it was a one-two punch from the Galaxy backfield. While Sandro Platzgummer won Citizen MVP of the Week, homegrown Gerald Ameln also stood out, rushing for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns in the high-scoring win over Madrid Bravos. And then there was Tobias Bonatti, who took over the game for the Raiders Tirol after starting QB Conor Miller went down. Bonatti ran for an impressive 185 yards and 3 touchdowns, thanks to great blocking and his own explosive runs. Teammates Lukas Haslwanter and Jan Wiesauer also contributed, but Bonatti clearly led the way. Homegrowns dominate the trenches It wasn’t just the offense where homegrowns shined. Defensive lines also played a huge role in Week 2, and two names stood out in particular. For the Nordic Storm, Marcus Berg Boesen followed up a strong Week 1 performance by teammate Max Parkinson with a dominant game of his own. The Danish defensive end had 2 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, and helped shut down the Wroclaw Panthers offense. Meanwhile in Hamburg, Joshua Köhnlein made a big impact for the Sea Devils. The 22-year-old defensive tackle caused major problems for the Lions’ offensive line and finished the day with 2 sacks and 1 tackle for loss, playing a key role in Hamburg’s win. Watch the ELF Live show week 2 recap! Defensive leaders stand tall The Nordic Storm had more than one homegrown standout. Veteran Ludvig Myren, now in his fourth ELF season, looked better than ever. Against the Panthers, he recorded 9 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 pass break-up — a complete performance from the Swedish linebacker. One of the biggest surprises of the weekend was the Paris Musketeers’ defense, which held the powerful Stuttgart Surge to zero points. At the heart of that effort was linebacker Digaan Gomis, a true leader on the field. Gomis finished with 10 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL, and 1 pass break-up, helping his team secure a tough 6–0 win. Fehérvár Enthroners @ Vienna Vikings – 15:62 The Vienna Vikings completed their second straight win of the season in dominant fashion, beating the Fehérvár Enthroners 62–15. With this strong performance, the Vikings continue their path toward their big goal — a return to the Championship Game. Both the offense and the defense of Vienna delivered a great show. Quarterback Ben Holmes threw four touchdown passes and added 55 rushing yards himself. Wide receivers Reece Horn and Noah Toure (the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year) each caught two touchdowns. On defense, the Vikings shined again. They grabbed two interceptions — both returned for pick-six touchdowns. The Enthroners showed some improvement on the offensive line compared to Week 1, allowing fewer sacks. However, two interceptions by quarterback Brock Domann — both returned for touchdowns — were major mistakes. Early in the game, defensive back Aleksandar Borkovic caught an interception for Fehérvár, showing the team’s potential. But overall, they struggled to stop the Vikings’ versatile offense and were overpowered by a rotating group of running backs. This was the second heavy loss in a row for the Enthroners. In Week 3, they will host the Prague Lions in a game where both teams will fight for their first win of the season. For the Vikings, it’s been a perfect start. They are now 2–0 with both wins coming against opponents from the East Division. In Week 3, they will face a huge challenge: a Championship Game rematch against Rhein Fire, who return well-rested from their first bye week. Watch the highlights here! Hamburg Sea Devils @ Prague Lions – 28:13 The game between the Hamburg Sea Devils and Prague Lions was a true defensive battle — with Hamburg coming out on top. The first Prague drive ended with an interception by Nazir Streater, giving the Sea Devils a short field. They took full advantage and scored a touchdown right away. The Lions answered quickly with a 71-yard drive to tie the game. But after that, both defenses took control, making life difficult for the offenses. Sea Devils QB Moritz Maack, a homegrown player, threw for just 58 yards, and Hamburg became one-dimensional, relying on the run game to move the ball — with success. The Lions struggled to stop the run and had no answer for Hamburg’s rushing touchdowns. The Prague offensive line was a major problem. They allowed six sacks, leading to poor field position throughout the game. On top of that, penalties erased several good plays and hurt their chances of staying competitive. This win is especially important for the Sea Devils. They now hold a 1–1 record, and with new American quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa joining the team, things are looking up. The defense once again looked strong — reminding fans of the team’s successful seasons in 2021 and 2022. In Week 3, they will play their first home game against the Stuttgart Surge — a real test to see if Hamburg can be a true playoff contender. For the Prague Lions, this is a worst-case start with an 0–2 record. While the team has shown improvement compared to last season, their offensive line issues and lack of discipline with penalties continue to hurt them. A pair of prominent brothers are bridging the gap between American and European football this summer: while Tua Tagovailoa has been one of the NFL's superstars as a playmaker for the Miami Dolphins since 2020, Taulia Tagovailoa is now entering the stage of the European League of Football. The 25-year-old signed a contract with the Hamburg Sea Devils on Thursday. "Taulia Tagovailoa's move is not only a real sporting coup for the Sea Devils, but also a strong sign for the development of the ELF. The fact that a quarterback with this college background has chosen our league shows how far we have come in terms of international recognition. The ELF is also on the radar in North America. This is a win for the entire league, for all teams, players and fans in Europe," says Patrick Esume, Commissioner of the European League of Football. "Exceptional player" Tagovailoa is considered one of the most successful college quarterbacks of recent years. After one season for the University of Alabama, he played four years for the Maryland Terrapins. There he achieved over 11,000 passing yards, making him one of the most successful passers in the history of the Big Ten Conference. Most recently, he played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. "With Taulia Tagovailoa, we were able to bring an exceptional player to Hamburg and the ELF who will make our team better. The start to the fifth season of the "Champions League" of European football was doubly bitter for the Hamburg Sea Devils. Quarterback Micah Leon suffered a hand injury during the game against the Madrid Bravos (12:13) and had to be placed on the Injured Reserve list. Just days after Micah Leon suffered an injury, the Hamburg Sea Devils have found their new starting quarterback: Taulia Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa joins the Hamburg franchise as the replacement for Leon, who was recently placed on Injured Reserve and is expected to miss several games. With this signing, the Sea Devils bring in a talented and experienced player — especially known in the world of college football. A record-breaking college career Taulia Tagovailoa played college football at Alabama and Maryland. He spent nine games on the practice squad before making his debut in August 2024. In total, he appeared in eight CFL games, recording one completed pass, ten rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown. A famous football family For many fans, the name sounds familiar — and rightly so. Taulia is the younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa, the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL. With his strong college background and professional experience, Taulia Tagovailoa now gets the chance to lead the Sea Devils. Week 1 of the 2025 European League of Football season is done — and what a start it was! We saw dominant wins, close battles, and some surprising performances. It’s still early in the season, and every team has many games left to play, but here’s where I rank each team going into Week 2, and why: 1. Stuttgart Surge The Surge looked strong on both sides of the ball in their win over Frankfurt Galaxy. Over 400 total offensive yards and only 240 yards allowed on defense — a complete performance. They won the battle at the line of scrimmage and showed they’re ready for another big season. Penalties remain their biggest issue. An overall strong performance showcases their talent, which is why they are also the top team in my power rankings. 2. Rhein Fire Rhein Fire came out on top in a hard-fought defensive battle against the Paris Musketeers. Their defensive line was impressive — maybe even stronger than last season’s. Offensively, not everything clicked, but new dual-threat QB Chad Jeffries adds another dimension to their game. 3. Vienna Vikings The Vikings earned a clear 28–6 win over the Prague Lions. WR Yannick Mayr adds even more depth to an already dangerous receiver group and shined on special teams, too. A solid performance overall, with room to grow. The talent on the roster is definitely worthy of a top-three ranking. Don't miss a single game - Get your Game Pass now! 4. Nordic Storm A strong debut from the new team! QB Jadrian Clark threw five touchdown passes, and the team rushed for 276 yards. The defense added four sacks and even a pick-six. Now the big question: Can they compete with the top teams? 5. Paris Musketeers Their narrow loss to Rhein Fire showed the team’s potential, especially on defense. But issues in the offensive line, including six sacks and multiple bad snaps, need to be fixed fast. The talent is clearly there. 6. Wroclaw Panthers Wroclaw impressed in all three phases of the game against the Enthroners. QB DJ Irons Jr. threw for three TDs and ran for two more. RB Dawid Brzozowski added 113 rushing yards. The defense had five sacks and a pick-six, and the return game was dangerous all day. The Munich Ravens present a true tough test for the Panthers in week 2. 7. Madrid Bravos Madrid started their ELF journey with a win over Hamburg, but the offense still needs time to find its rhythm. QB Reid Sinnett and his receivers are not yet in sync — but they still managed to get the W. If they can establish the running game, they could become a tough challenge for the top teams. 8. Munich Ravens Munich won a tough defensive game against the Raiders. Their run game worked well, but the passing game is a concern. Young QB Russell Tabor completed under 50% of his passes and threw two interceptions. Still, the defense showed they can compete with anyone. If Tabor shows an improved performance in Week 2, a jump into the Top 5 is definitely possible. 9. Frankfurt Galaxy Frankfurt had a tough first matchup against the Surge. They struggled to pressure the QB and couldn’t match the Surge offensively. WR Terry Wright didn’t make much impact in the passing game but showed his speed on special teams. In the game against the Madrid Bravos, they need to prove themselves and show that they can compete with the top teams. Get your tickets for the 2025 Championship Game in Stuttgart! 10. Raiders Tirol The Raiders were limited to just 58 rushing yards — surprising for one of the best RB groups in the league. QB Conor Miller had an average game with only 21 completions on 38 attempts. Their defense was solid, but the offense must improve. In the game against the Mercenaries, the Raiders need to make a strong statement and show that they are a playoff team. 11. Hamburg Sea Devils Hamburg gave Madrid a good fight and surprised many with their strong defense. RBs Chrisman Kyei and Lucas Candido looked solid. However, penalties and special teams mistakes — including just 2 of 5 field goals made — hurt their chances. 12. Berlin Thunder A huge win for Berlin with seven passing touchdowns from QB Jakeb Sullivan and over 570 total yards. But it’s important to stay grounded — their Week 2 matchup against the strong Ravens defense will be the real test. 13. Prague Lions Prague kept things close with Vienna in the first half and showed improvement from last season. Their passing game struggled, and they only converted 2 of 13 third downs. Still, there’s potential in this team what they can prove against the Sea Devils in Week 2. 14. Helvetic Mercenaries The Mercenaries lost 12–56 to Nordic Storm but had some good moments, especially from QB Isaiah Weed, who had a 69-yard rushing touchdown. More consistency is needed, and their Week 2 matchup against the Raiders won’t be easy. 15. Fehérvár Enthroners A tough loss against Wroclaw. The special teams gave up too many big returns, and the offensive line allowed five sacks. Things need to change fast, with the Vienna Vikings up next. 16. Cologne Centurions Cologne had a rough start against Berlin, allowing nine touchdowns. The young team showed flashes, especially with a 92-yard TD pass from QB Jan Leuker to Austin Osborne. Their upcoming bye week comes at a perfect time to regroup. The season is just beginning, and things can change quickly. Let’s see who rises and who falls in next week’s power ranking! The Hamburg Sea Devils suffered a close loss in Week 1 — and now they face another setback. The team has announced that their American quarterback Micah Leon has been placed on Injured Reserve (IR). Leon played a solid game against the Madrid Bravos, even though he didn’t throw for a touchdown. He showed good control and helped the offense move the ball. Moritz Maack takes over at QB With Leon out, homegrown quarterback Moritz Maack will take the lead in Week 2 against the Prague Lions. Maack already stepped in during the final drive of the Bravos game and moved the offense all the way to the Bravos' 25-yard line — showing calm and confidence under pressure. The Sea Devils showed a strong performance overall in Week 1. Now the question is: Can they get their first win of the season with a homegrown quarterback under center? The Hamburg Sea Devils have found an experienced successor for their former Defensive Coordinator Ray Woodward: Bob Valesente, an internationally recognized football veteran, will take over responsibility for the Hamburg team's defense with immediate effect. Valesente brings over 35 years of coaching experience with him - including stints as an assistant coach in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Colts and Carolina Panthers. The 84-year-old has also left his mark internationally: As defensive coordinator, he led the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europe, won the 2010 German Bowl with the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes and took the World Games title with the French national team in 2017. "His experience is an asset for the entire organization" "With Robert Valesente, we are gaining an absolutely exceptional coach who has impressively proven both in the USA and in Europe that he can shape and develop teams," says Mark Weitz, Managing Director of the Hamburg Sea Devils. "His experience and personality are an asset to the entire organization." For Valesente himself, the move to Hamburg is far more than just another chapter in his long career: "Football is my passion. I love the challenge of developing talent, shaping teams and competing at the highest level," he explains. "It's a great privilege for me to take on this role at my age - and I will do everything I can to be successful with the Sea Devils." The season has started, the first matchday is over. Some teams have started with a defeat, others with a win. How do the results affect the winning in season opening games? Note: Since not all teams have been part of the European League of Football since 2021, not every team has played the same number of opening games. Therefore, the sorting is based on the percentage of success.  Some fans must be very strong now. Four franchises have not been able to win any of their season-opening games yet. Frankfurt Galaxy (2021: L, 2022: L, 2023: L, 2024: L. 2025 L) Fehérvár Enthroners (2023: L, 2024: L, 2025: L) Prague Lions (2023: L, 2024: L, 2025: L) Helvetic Mercenaries (2023: L, 2024: L, 2025: L) After the clear defeat against Berlin Thunder, the success rate of the Cologne Centurions has changed. Cologne Centurions (2021: L, 2022: W, 2023: L, 2024: L, 2025: L)   Good news for the Munich Ravens. In this year, they were able to win their first season opening game.  Munich Ravens (2023: L, 2024: L, 2025: W) The Berlin Thunder improved their position with a clear 63:14 victory against the Cologne Centurions in Week 1. Berlin Thunder (2021: L, 2022: L, 2023: W, 2024: L, 2025: W) The narrow and tough 12-13 defeat against the Madrid Bravos caused the Hamburg Sea Devils to slip from 75 to 60 percent. Hamburg Sea Devils (2021: W, 2022: W, 2023: L, 2024: W, 2025: L) Not the start to the season the Raiders had hoped for. After the loss to the Munich Ravens, they were only able to win half of their season opening games. Raiders Tirol  (2022: L, 2023: W, 2024: W, 2025: L) We have made it past the halfway mark. For the first time, the Musketeers were unable to win their first game of the season. They were only two points away from a win against champions Rhein Fire. Paris Musketeers (2023: W, 2024: W, 2025: L) We are getting closer to perfection. Nevertheless, there have been defeats. What a start to the fifth season of the European league of Football is behind us! The first matchday had great matchups and many highlights in store. In addition to touchdown shows, there were exciting matchups that were only decided shortly before the end. Hamburg Sea Devils defense shines against Madrid Bravos One of these was the clash between the Hamburg Sea Devils and Madrid Bravos, which ended 12:13. In the Spanish capital, it was above all the defensive players who shone. Three-time Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kicthens told “firstdownmag”: "Everybody thought our defense gonna be bad, but we had proved a lot of people. We surprised a lot of people today." The Sea Devils' defense allowed only 13 points against a star-loaded Bravos team. Bravos head coach Andrew Weidinger expressed his frustration on the Spanish  "8 Costuras Podcast": "We expected them to come out and play hard. It shouldn't have been quite as close as it was, but that's our own fault. That's my fault."  Bravos head coach is struggling with missed chances against Sea Devils The missed chances in particular annoyed the experienced coach: "We got to just practice and get better because we had our opportunities. We didn't capitalize on them." Quarterback Reid Sinnet had his star receiver Aron Cruickshank open several times, including for touchdowns, but narrowly missed. Another touchdown was taken away from the duo by a penalty. Both played a good game, but could have crowned their performance and given their head coach a more relaxed evening. Weidinger praises his defense, but sees huge potential for improvement in the offense. The next chance to prove themselves comes in Week 2, again at home in the Estadio Vallehermoso against Frankfurt Galaxy, who are coming off a clear defeat against Stuttgart Surge. ©Henning Rohlfs Two blocked field goals decide Sea Devils at Bravos The Sea Devils' offense also had to struggle with a good opposing defense. However, the end of the game was particularly bitter. Sea Devils Kicker Eric Schlomm had victory on his feed shortly before the end. It would have been the fourth win in the fifth season opening game. But Schlomm showed nerves. His kick hit the left post. The Hamburg Sea Devils lose, celebrations for the Madrid Bravos. Or were they? A yellow flag put the brakes on the Spaniards' euphoria. The field goal had to be retaken due to a false start penalty. Another try for Schlomm, but he also failed to score the second game-winning field goal. Watch the Sea Devils at Bravos highlights here! Sea Devils head coach Rowland looking forward to more Despite the disappointment, Lee Rowland takes positives from his first game as Head Coach of the Hamburg Sea Devils: "I'm very proud of the boys. They showed that they can play football despite last week's setbacks. Of course, there are things we still need to work on, but we showed today who we are and what we stand for. It was a game that was decided by just one point - that's football." Wide receiver Jean-Claude Madin Cerezo, who still wore the Bravos' jersey in the 2024 season, feels the same way: "We acted like a family, you could feel that on the field. The potential in this team is huge. Now it's time to keep working hard and grow as a unit." Raiders let game against Ravens slip away in last quarter The game between Raiders Tirol and Munich Ravens was also decided shortly before the end. In the end, the Ravens recorded a 20:7 victory. The Raiders were still leading 7:6 until the fourth quarter, but two late touchdowns by the Ravens decided the game. Raiders safety Vincent Müller said reflectively after the game: "A lot of mistakes, a lot of lack of concentration. We beat ourselves today. They are a good team, but we shot ourselves in the foot. In the end, you lose 20:7, despite the big plays. You lose and win together."   Now the focus is completely on the game in week 2 against the Helvetic Mercenaries. "Not the start we had in mind. But we have a tough week of training ahead of us so that we can get our first win next week at homecoming," says wide receiver Philipp Haun. Watch the Raiders at Ravens highlights here! Musketeers narrowly failed to beat champions Rhein Fire Meanwhile, the current ELF champions Rhein Fire won by just two points against the Paris Musketeers. The French side could also have secured victory in the final quarter. But the Rhein Fire defense had other plans. First, they averted an almost certain field goal with two sacks and good tackling. Fire's star defender Flamur Simon then robbed them of their last chance to win with a late-game interception.   The Paris Musketeers face Stuttgart Surge in week 2, who showed good form with a clear win against Frankfurt Galaxy. Season five of the European League of Football has finally started! The first matchday already delivered exciting games and some highlights. The Hamburg Sea Devils and Madrid Bravos faced off at the Estadio Vallehermoso in Madrid, Spain. Both teams had big plans for the new season. In the end, the Madrid Bravos started with a successful experience in the season. Watch all plays live with the Game Pass on DAZN Hamburg Sea Devils @ Madrid Bravos: 12:13 Although a look at the scoreboard suggests a boring game, it was not. Both teams showed their strengths above all in defense and made life difficult for the opposing offense. Even though the Sea Devils were able to produce some big plays, such as a 60-yard rush by rookie Chrisman Kyei, the visitors struggled to score. Kicker Eric Schlomm had to help out time and again. Running back Kyei scored the only touchdown.  The Bravos' defense held and even forced an interception against quarterback Micah Leon, who did not have an easy debut. The A-Import finished the game with 211 passing yards. Three-time Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kitchens delivered three tackles, no sacks, but one fumble recovery in his first game as a Sea Devils. Jonathan Ipsen had the only sack of the day for Hamburg.     Penalties made life difficult for Sea Devils and Bravos The Spanish offense made some good plays, but also struggled to score. Former NFL quarterback Reid Sinnet had his star receiver Aron Cruickshank open for a touchdown twice, but overthrew. The third time, Cruickshank failed at the one-yard line. The referees conceded one of the duo's touchdowns due to a penalty. In general, yellow flags were a huge factor in the game. The referees called 24 penalties in total - 15 for the Sea Devils, nine for the Bravos. But first the experienced Special teamer caused a false start penalty and then failed to convert the repeated field goal. This year they are hoping to set the tone for step forward in 2025 against an Enthroners team they have dominated in the past.  Rhein Fire at Paris Musketeers Jack Del Rio’s debut New Musketeers head coach Jack Del Rio will make his debut for the French squad against the back to back defending champions and of course his former NFL opponent Jim Tomsula’s squad. This game features several all star players and the league’s two most notable coaches in what's sure to be an instant classic.  Hamburg Sea Devils at Madrid Bravos Can the Bravos charge forward? Year one in Madrid can only be described as a smashing success, as the Spanish squad made the playoffs in their first year. The Hamburg Sea Devils will kick off the new European League of Football season on May 17th with an away game in the Spanish capital. Their opponents on the first match day are the Madrid Bravos — a very special encounter for two Sea Devils players.  Both Offensive Guard Robin Fensch and Wide Receiver Jean-Claude Madin Cerezo wore the Bravos' jersey last season and are returning to Hamburg for the 2025 season. "We're looking forward to the start of the season in Madrid. It's an exciting challenge to start with an away game - and at the same time an emotional return for two of our guys," says Mark Weitz, General Manager of the Hamburg Sea Devils. "Robin and Jean-Claude are not only a sporting asset, but also strong characters for our team structure." Start of a new era for the Hamburg Sea Devils The game also marks the beginning of a new era for the Sea Devils: The collaboration with previous Head Coach Shuan Fatah was terminated at the beginning of the week. With immediate effect, Lee Rowland, previously the team's Offensive Coordinator, will take over the role of Head Coach.  "The team is ready — despite the recent developments. Players and coaches are fully focused on football and our upcoming opponent, Madrid. We know we're a good football team, and we're ready to show that to our fans and the rest of the league on Saturday," said Lee Rowland, the Sea Devils' new Head Coach.   Sea Devils star: "Hamburg is my football home" For Robin Fensch, the return to Hamburg and the direct duel with his former team is a highlight at the start: "It feels like coming home — and at the same time like an exciting new start. The time has finally come! The fifth season of the European League of Football is about to start. The time has finally come! Players, managers, and fans of Nordic Storm are certainly thinking the same thing. For the young franchise from Copenhagen, Denmark, May 18th, 2025 will be a very special day.  That's when Storm will not only play their first game in the European League of Football, but also their first game in franchise history. The team managers built an entire organization from scratch this offseason. The first success could be celebrated against the Helvetic Mercenaries.  However, a new ELF team was not always immediately successful in its first game in the European League of Football. We take a look at the first ELF games in the history of the current teams.  The Ferhévár Enthroners did not get off to a particularly good start. They opened the season with a clear 3:36 defeat at home against Berlin Thunder in 2023. The Wroclaw Panthers are the champions in season opening games. They haven't lost one yet, and accordingly won the first ELF game in franchise history. At home, the Panthers beat the Cologne Centurions 2021 in a spectacular game with 55:39.  The Prague Lions, on the other hand, suffered a defeat. They played their first ELF game at home in 2023. They lost 15:18 against the Leipzig Kings, who are no longer part of the ELF.  The last team in the East Division, however, was successful again. In 2022, the Vienna Vikings played away against the Raiders Tirol and won 29:23.     Berlin Thunder have been part of the ELF since 2021. They lost their first game at home 27:37 against the Leipzig Kings.  The Hamburg Sea Devils also started 2021, but they did a better job. In Hamburg, the Sea Devils beat Frankfurt Galaxy 17:15.  The current ELF champions Rhein Fire also won. In 2022, they also played their first game against Frankfurt Galaxy. Fire won 29:26 on the road.  The Helvetic Mercenaries lost their first game under their new name in 2024. The Barcelona Dragons won 23:19 in Switzerland. Madrid Bravos also competed in the ELF for the first time in 2024. The team from Spain won the Classico against the Barcelona Dragons by a clear 42:12.      The Munich Ravens, meanwhile, suffered a defeat at the start. They lost 38:59 at home against the Raiders Tirol in 2023. The Austrians were also unable to win their first game in 2022. The Raiders Tirol lost against the Vienna Vikings with 23:29. It was the only season opening game so far that was not won.  The Cologne Centurions have been part of the European League of Football since 2021.
