Surge DB Mitchell Fettig: “I want to win the championship”
In the latest episode of the ELF Live Show, Stuttgart Surge defensive back Mitchell Fettig joined hosts Nick Alfieri and ELF expert Matt Bressington. Together, they looked back on Fettig’s career so far and the off-season.
Fettig came close to winning the ELF Championship twice with the Surge. In 2023, they lost the final to Rhein Fire. Last season, they were defeated by Rhein Fire again, this time in the semi-final. But the Surge are still hungry for success. This year, the goal is clear: to finally win the Championship. “We’ve been close twice, but close is not good enough,” Fettig said. “The eyes are on the prize.”
During the show, Fettig also shared why he thinks it's easy for Stuttgart to keep most of their players together. “We started with a mission, and that mission isn’t finished yet,” he explained. “When you have players with the same goal, it’s easy to bring them back to complete that mission.”
Tune in!
Every Friday at 12 PM CET, Nick Alfieri and Matt Bressington take you into the world of the ELF. They talk about everything happening in the league. Watch the show on YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook — and join the conversation live!

The top ELF off-season moves of April
The season kicks off in only 16 days, as teams are excited to hit the game field for the first time since last year. Let's take a look at some of the top moves teams made last month to prepare for week one.
Rhein Fire get WR with NFL experience
Rhein Fire has completed its American player roster with the signing of wide receiver Rory Starkey. He joins quarterback Chad Jeffries and defensive backs Omari Williams and Darius Nash as the fourth American on the team. Starkey will add even more talent to an already strong wide receiver group.
After his time in college, he had opportunities with the Green Bay Packers and the Houston Roughnecks of the UFL.
Madrid Bravos add DROY
The Madrid Bravos have made a strong addition to their defensive line by signing Pierre-Yves Majo. The 24-year-old defensive lineman played his first season in the European League of Football in 2024 and immediately made an impact.
Majo played 12 games for the Helvetic Mercenaries last season, recording 39 tackles, 7 sacks, and 16 tackles for loss. His outstanding performance earned him the title of Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Paris Musketeers sign All-American DT
The Paris Musketeers have signed defensive tackle Lamonte McDougle. The American joins former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio in the French capital as the first American import on defense for the French squad.
McDougle played for West Virginia, UTEP, and Washington State during his college career, building a reputation as a disruptive nose tackle.
Enthroners make an import switch
The European League of Football season hasn’t started yet, but the Fehérvár Enthroners have already made changes to their roster. They have signed American defensive lineman Michael Badejo, who will replace Emmit Gooden.
Badejo brings with him D1 experience from SMU and was a standout last season in the German Football League.
Surge bring back star safety
In a move that will excite Stuttgart Surge fans across the league, defensive back Raheem Simiram-Wilson is returning for the 2025 season. After a breakout campaign in 2024, the 31-year-old veteran has re-signed with the team and is set to remain a central piece in head coach Jordan Neuman’s defensive puzzle.
The former CFL starter had 6 interceptions last season in only ten games, making an enormous impact on the Stuttgart Surge defense.
Munich Ravens load up on defense
The Munich Ravens will bring back defenders Wael Nasri, Etuale Lui, and Christoph Nitzlnander. As the Bavarian squad hopes to make another playoff run this year.
One new face for the Ravens will be safety Cole Coleman. Cole knows the ELF, playing for the Vienna Vikings last season. Prior to coming to Europe the former Elon DB spent time in the NFL and CFL.

Stuttgart Surge sign Wide Receiver Trio
On the way to the Championship Game in their own stadium, Stuttgart Surge have made further progress with their squad planning. The team from the West Division has extended the contracts of three wide receivers.
Emil Rabin only caught two passes in two games last season. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old Homegrown was able to gain 71 yards and score a touchdown. Before moving to Stuttgart in 2023, Rabin played for the Nuremberg Rams and one year at Graceland University in the America Athletic Conference in the United States.
"Last two years we felt short of our goal. This year we are coming for it and I can’t wait to contribute to it. Shoutout to the OFC and all the fans", says Rabin. He adds: "Cant wait to feel GAZI rocking. It's gonna be a special season this year!"
Leonell Fritzen has also played for Surge in the ELF. The 24-year-old also primarily played as a back-up, but can even report one appearance in a playoff game. Before his transfer in 2023, Fritzen played for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, with whom he was CEFL Champion and GFL Bowl Champion. His goals seem clear: "CG25 in MHP Arena is the goal. Let us accomplish an unforgettable season this year!!"
Timon Stüwe, meanwhile, has known the European League of Football for a little longer. From 2022 to 2023, the 23-year-old played as a back-up for the Leipzig Kings. He previously performed for the Oldenburg Knights, Emsland United and Marburg Mercenaries. The wideout can also play as a long snapper.

"A highlight" - Sea Devils return to Weserstadion to fight Stuttgart Surge
Not long now until the fifth season of the European League of Football begins. Preparations are in full swing. While some front offices are to keep announcing the final signings, the players are already training intensively. Meanwhile, the Hamburg Sea Devils have now announced that their first home game of the season will take place on May 31st against Stuttgart Surge at the Weserstadion in Bremen. This is where Bundesliga soccer team Werder Bremen normally plays.
Last season, the team from Hamburg already played about 130 kilometers away in Bremen. Back then, in front of an impressive atmosph ere, Sea Devils team captain Levi Kruse remembers: “The atmosphere in the Weserstadion with over 13,000 fans last year was a highlight - this year we want to go one better.”
Sea Devils GM Weitz: "Received a very warm welcome here last year"
Sea Devils General Manager Mark Weitz also emphasizes the importance of Bremen as a location: “We received a very warm welcome here last year - from the city, the stadium, and the fans. Bremen is a football-loving city with a wide range of teams and fans.” Despite the return of most home games to Hamburg, the game in Bremen remains on the calendar “because it's simply a great stage for football in northern Germany.” The excellent infrastructure particularly impresses him.
In addition to a top-class opponent, fans can also look forward to a premiere with the match against Surge. The two teams have never met before in the European League of Football. The game kicks off with a power party at 1 pm. The game starts at 6 pm. Meanwhile, Head Coach Shuan Fatah is looking forward to a sporting challenge: “Stuttgart is a title contender, but we are ready to be an unpleasant opponent.”
You can find out whether they succeed live in the ELF Game Pass or on site.

ELF coaches participate in NFL coaching program
Things will kick off at the beginning of May. Three German coaches will then experience a very special week with the NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Two of them already coached in the European League of Football.
The team from the NFC South invites to the one-week “National Coaching Academy”. For several years now, the program has attempted to offer talented football coaches intensive further training opportunities at NFL level. Provided that they have been coaching for at least three years and work in a team at high school, college or semi-professional level.
1500 applications were received worldwide for the 25 free places. The applicants came from the USA, Japan, England, Denmark and Germany. With Nadine Nurasyid, Henry Schlegel and Simon Bramberger, three German coaches made it through.
German participant made history
Nurasyid is a well-known football face in Germany. Last season, the 38-year-old worked as a defensive assistant coach for Stuttgart Surge. Born in Munich, she started out as a player with the Munich Cowboys Ladies in 2013 and later played for the German national team for a long time. After her active career as a play, she remained with the Cowboys as a coach, where Nurasyid made international history in 2022.
To date, she is the first and only woman in Europe to lead a men's football team in a first division as head coach. Since 2023, she has also been working as an NFL expert for the streaming service DAZN and on television for RTL. Simon Bramberger, a former teammate of Nurasyid, has also joined the NFL program. The former offensive tackle has been the Cowboys' run game coordinator and offensive line coach for several years.
ELF Coach as one of the greatest coaching talents in Europe
Henry Schlegel will be the third German coach in the “National Coaching Academy”. At the same time, the 25-year-old is probably one of the youngest participants. Schlegel is regarded as one of the biggest coaching talents in European football. He took on his first coaching job in 2019 as wide receiver coach of the Hildesheim Young Invaders. In the same year, he was promoted to offensive coordinator.
In 2022, he gained his first experience in US football when he accepted a volunteer position at Division I FCS Bethune-Cookman University. In 2023, Schlegel was promoted to Offensive Coordinator of the Berlin Thunder. At only 23 years old at the time, he became the youngest OC in the history of the European League of Football. During this offseason, Schlegel signed as quarterback coach at the newly founded team Nordic Storm.

The big dream of the NFL is on the line
Part of the program includes group training courses and team meetings. The team's rookie camps take place at the same time. This allows the aspiring coaches to observe the knowledge they have learned directly in practice.
The participants will be mentored by a prominent team of experts. Among them are Super Bowl Champion Jon Gruden, Bruce Arians and Tony Dungy. Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles and General Manager Jason Licht will also be involved.
After the coaching program, a special opportunity awaits the participants. Five of them will be selected to join the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. They will be allowed to stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and gain practical experience during training camps, offseason workout programs and minicamps of the NFL teams and thus qualify for a career as an NFL coach.

Wherever Willie Patterson goes, success follows. After winning a championship with Rhein Fire in 2023, he joined the Madrid Bravos and played another strong season. He is extremely versatile — lining up as a wide receiver, running back, and even quarterback.

What a rookie year for the 26-year-old. The linebacker was able to establish himself right away with Frankfurt Galaxy, starting all twelve games and recording 135 tackles. He even made it to the All-Star team. Despite his big role, Dyrendahl had to answer the call of home. The Swedish native will play for Nordic Storm next season.
#79 Juan Flores-Calderon
In a rather disappointing Milano Seamen team, Flores-Calderon was a real bright spot. The 21-year-old wide receiver collected 732 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. The 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year will also be seen in the ELF next season. But then with the Madrid Bravos.

The free safety joined the Vienna Vikings late after spending some time in Switzerland, but still had a direct impact. Especially in terms of turnovers. In five games, he made two interceptions, forced a fumble and recovered three more. He also had eleven pass deflections. Next season, Hike Jr. will prove this talent with the Prague Lions.

#77 Krzystof Wis
The middle linebacker is one of the cornerstones of the Wroclaw Panthers' defense. Together with superstar A.J. Wentland, Wis makes life difficult for opposing running backs. The 37-year-old veteran recorded 78 tackles, including ten for loss and 6.5 sacks last season.
#76 Jakub Smutný
Defensive tackle Jakub Smutný also likes to bring running backs to the ground. The 28-year-old Czech had his breakthrough last season and more than doubled his number of tackles. The Prague Lions rewarded this with a contract extension.
©Jakub Platenik

74 Flamur Simon
What a year for Flamur Simon. The linebacker established himself at Rhein Fire, became a starter, put in outstanding performances and played a big part in Rhein Fire celebrating their second ELF Championship title in a row. So it's no wonder that the German extended his contract this offseason.

The Stuttgart Surge extend QB Lars Heidrich
The Stuttgart Surge are looking to reload and retool their team this upcoming season as they hope to play in the championship game in front of their home fans in Stuttgart. Part of the strategy is bringing back homegrown backup quarterback Lars Heidrich.
2024 season
Heidrich, 23, played last season for the Surge throwing for 345 yards and 6 touchdowns and only one interception while completeing 23 of his 35 passes in mostly mop of duty, serving as the back up quarterback for Reilly Hennessey. The young german quarterback was named to the ELF's 2024 Homegrown Team.
A young veteran?
He has plenty of ELF experience having also played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2023 throwing for 585 yards and 7 touchdowns in relief of an injured Jakeb Sullivan.
Overall in his young career, Heirich has thrown for 930 yards, 13 touchdowns, and only three interceptions in 115 attempts. This makes him one of the more experienced German quaterbacks available. Prior to the ELF he played for the Saarland Hurricanes.

Top 100 Players of the 2024 ELF Season: Ranks 90 to 81
In April, we will reveal the Top 100 graded players of the 2024 European League of Football season, according to SportsMetrics. These grades are based on on-field performance, using a detailed system that compares stats across positions and games. Today, we begin with players ranked #90 to #81.
Berend Grube is one of the best linemen in the league. ©Jonas Wicker
#90: Berend Grube
Berend Grube is an ELF veteran who has played in the league since season one. After three strong years with the Hamburg Sea Devils, he joined the Raiders Tirol for 2024 and showed his skills once again. His consistent performance earned him a spot in the Top 100 — and now, he’ll play for the Stuttgart Surge.
#89: Patrick Poetsch
Patrick Poetsch has also been in the ELF since the beginning. He played for the Cologne Centurions and Rhein Fire, where he helped win two Championships. He may not have flashy stats, but his pass- and run-blocking skills make him one of the most reliable fullbacks in the league.
#88: Adam Zouzelka
Zouzelka was one of the bright spots for the Prague Lions in a tough season. In his second ELF year, he proved to be a consistent and hard-working player. With a stronger roster around him in 2025, he could help push the Lions to new heights.
Always ready for his quarterback: Marvin Rutsch. ©Roland Johannes
#87: Marvin Rutsch
Rutsch is the ELF all-time receptions leader and a key target for any quarterback. In 2024, he had 55 catches for 645 yards and 7 touchdowns. His reliable hands and sharp route-running once again made him one of the top receivers in the league.
#86: Alessandro Vergani
Vergani was a standout offensive lineman in 2024, showing strong pass- and run-blocking skills. He made the 2nd All-Star Team and will return to Stuttgart in 2025, much to the joy of quarterback Reilly Hennessey.
Lennart Weitz is one of the most talented linebackers in the league. ©Marc Junge
#85: Lennart Weitz
Weitz was part of Rhein Fire’s championship-winning team and showed why he’s a top linebacker. His defensive impact was big — and the team made sure to keep him with a contract extension for the upcoming season.
#84: Anthony Brown
Brown made a big impact with exciting plays alongside QB Carlton Aiken Jr. Injuries slowed down both players, but Brown still performed well enough to earn his place among the league's top 100.Madrid Bravos quarterback from last season: Steven Duncan. ©Just Shots
#83: Steven Duncan
Duncan had a tough season. He started with the Wrocław Panthers but was released early. Later, the Madrid Bravos signed him to replace injured QB Chris Helbig. In Madrid, he proved his talent and earned his spot in the Top 100.
#82: Marvin Wappl
Wappl played for one of the most dominant defensive lines in the league with the Vienna Vikings. His strong performance helped stop many offensive plays, and he rightfully belongs in the Top 100.
#81: Daniel Schumacher
Schumacher had a mixed year—not because of his own performance, but because of his team’s inconsistency. The Cologne Centurions ended the season 6-6, but Schumacher still punted 55 times for 1,729 yards, showing his strong and consistent leg.
Stay tuned as we continue counting down the Top 100 ELF Players of 2024 — coming tomorrow: spots 80 to 71!

ELF x Sports Metrics Top 100 Graded Players - Explained
In the coming month of April, we will be releasing the top 100 graded players of the 2024 season according to sportsmetrics. The grades reflect the individual's performance on the field.
Grading System for Players and Teams
SportsMetrics Grades evaluate both individual players and teams based on their performance in a single game as well as the entire season. The grades are designed to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of a player’s performance in different categories such as passing, rushing, receiving, defense, and kicking. Each category is further divided into player positions, such that each player’s performance is evaluated against other players in the same position. The grades are designed to be scalable for different player positions, meaning that a linebacker’s performance is compared to other linebackers in each category.
Weighted Metrics
Each category in the SportsMetrics grading system sets different weights on statistical in-game metrics. These metrics are then weighted based on their importance to the category to provide an accurate evaluation of a player’s performance. This ensures that the grading system is fair and objective, and the players’ performance is evaluated based on the metrics that matter the most in each category.
Comparison and Scaling
To compare and scale the teams’ and players’ performance, SportsMetrics Grades use a specially fitted sigmoid function. This function ensures that the grades are scaled appropriately, and the players’ performance is evaluated accurately based on the metrics in each category. The stats are compared with the overall distribution of league performance in each category and then weighted by the category weights.
Limitations
While SportsMetrics Grades provides an accurate and unbiased evaluation of the players and teams, it has some limitations. Currently, it is technically not possible to rate offensive line players accurately. Thus, those players were rated by expert opinions. Additionally, the ratings for defensive backs should be read cautiously, as the best defensive backs may not have the best numbers since quarterbacks try to avoid throwing in their direction.

Stuttgart Surge relies on experienced DBs
Good news for the fans of Stuttgart Surge. The team will continue to rely on two experienced defensive backs next season. Lasse Engel and Konstantin Katz, both born in Stuttgart, have agreed new contracts.
Engel, who also has Danish roots, has been playing for Surge since 2023. He has already appeared in 25 games, recording 51 tackles and three interceptions. “It's a great honor to come back to play for my hometown and represent Stuttgart on the European stage for another season,” says Engel. The 27-year-old adds: “This team and organization is special, and I am proud to be a part of it once more.”
Before joining Surge, Engel played six years with the Stuttgart Scorpions. From 2018 to 2020, Engel played at the NCAA Div. I level with the San Diego State Aztecs in the USA, where he won the New Mexican Bowl in 2020.
Katz special motivation
Konstantin Katz will also remain with Surge. The 29-year-old made his ELF debut for Frankfurt Galaxy in 2022 before returning to his hometown of Stuttgart in 2023. “Trust in my teammates, trust in my coaches, trust in the organization and in the fans. That's how we're going to win everything!” Katz is confident about the upcoming season.
He also played for the Stuttgart Scorpions for many years before moving to Switzerland in 2020. He won the Swiss Bowl with the Calanda Broncos in 2021. He also wants to celebrate with Surge at the end of the season — at home. The 2025 Championship Game will take place in the MHP Arena in Stuttgart on September 7th.

ELF players star at NFL IPP Pro Day
The ELF had four players take part in last week's NFL IPP pro day at the University of South Florida. The Frankfurt Galaxy’s punter Bastian Roppelt, the Stuttgart Surge’s kicker Lenny Krieg, as well as offensive lineman Leander Wiegand, and former DPOY Maceo Beard were all part this year's NFL IPP class which showed off its skills in front of NFL dozens of scouts.
The future Atlanta Falcon Lenny Krieg steals the show
The Stuttgart Surge’s kicker Lenny Krieg stole the show at the NFL Combine in February and once again showed scouts his powerful leg during the pro day last week.
As you might know, Krieg signed with the Atlanta Falcons shortly after the pro day as several teams had lined up visits for the German kicker following another impressive kicking performance.
NFL IPP scout Mark Dulgerian spoke on Krieg’s pro day performance:
“He continued his momentum from the Combine, showing impressive lift and power in his kicks. Our kicking coach, Tadhg Leader, did a fantastic job preparing him for what NFL evaluators would be focused on in these workouts. “
Leander Wiegand shows off elite strength
Moving on to the big boys, the former Rhein Fire and Munich Ravens offensive lineman Leander Wiegand had scouts buzzing after an impressive show on the bench press with 38 reps of 225 lbs. This would’ve been the most of any offensive lineman at the 2025 NFL Combine by a astounding 5 reps. He also had an 8’10 broad jump and a 32-inch vertical jump. That vertical would’ve put him in the top 6 at the combine for offensive lineman.
“Not surprised by his test results. He set an ambitious goal for his bench press mark and he achieved that, posting one of the best marks of the entire draft class. He also moved well in drills at his size.” - Mark Dulgerian
Maceo Beard continues to turn heads
Former DPOY Maceo Beard also turned heads at the pro-day. The Frenchman last played for the Paris Musketeers in 2024. During the pro-day Beard showed off great movement skills and precise technique.
“He really worked on his physique during his time at IMG and he showed up in great shape at his pro day. He looked very comfortable in field drills and caught the ball well.” - Mark Dulgerian
The ELF has already produce several NFL players including pro bowler Kavontae Turpin. Through the NFL IPP program the ELF has already helped prepare Colts defensive back Marcel Dabo and Baltimore Ravens defensive end Adedayo Odeleye.

The top ELF off-season moves of March
The new European League of Football season is getting closer, with the first games kicking off on May 17. Over the past month, many teams have made big signings to strengthen their rosters. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest moves from March.
New weapons for Clark
Nordic Storm has added more firepower to its offense, giving quarterback Jadrian Clark new targets. Wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu joins from the Potsdam Royals after winning the German Bowl last season. He will take the team’s receiving corps to a top level.
Another big signing is Adrià Botella Moreno, considered the best tight end in the ELF and a multiple-time All-Star. For him, this is a reunion with Clark, as both played together for the Hamburg Sea Devils in 2021.
Playmakers for the Raiders
The Raiders Tirol made four key signings in March, strengthening both offense and defense. Wide receiver Jacorey Sullivan will be a top target for quarterback Connor Miller, bringing big-play ability to the team. Alongside him, homegrown star Tobias Bonatti has re-signed after an impressive season. Bonatti is one of the best running backs in the ELF and will add versatility to the offense.
Defensively, the Raiders added two athletic playmakers. Aaron Maddox and Dijion Walls are known for their ability to create turnovers. This American duo in the Raiders’ defensive backfield will be a nightmare for opposing offenses.
NFL experience for the Galaxy
Frankfurt Galaxy made strong additions on both offense and defense. Running back Sandro Platzgummer returns to the team after spending time in the NFL with the New York Giants. He will be a key piece in helping the Galaxy bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season.
On defense, Frankfurt signed Channing Stribling, a proven leader. Stribling played college football at Michigan and has been part of five different NFL teams. He also showed his skills in the UFL and CFL. His experience will be crucial in strengthening the Galaxy’s secondary.
College power for the Vikings
The Vienna Vikings used their last A-spot to sign defensive back Dennis Amani. Amani played college football and gained experience in the CFL and USFL. In 2019, he even attended the Cleveland Browns’ mini-camp. He will team up with Divine Buckrham to challenge opposing quarterbacks.
On offense, the Vikings added Victor Stoffel to their offensive line. The Swedish lineman played for Temple University and the University of California, Berkeley. Now, he returns to Europe to help the Vikings in their quest for the ELF Championship.
Offensive support for the Surge
Stuttgart Surge has been very active in the off-season, re-signing many key players while also adding new talent to their defensive line, secondary, and linebacker group.
Wide receiver Daniel Pedro, a 2024 German Bowl champion with the Potsdam Royals, will be a key target for quarterback Reilly Hennessey. He brings strong stats and championship experience.
In the backfield, Stuttgart added another playmaker in running back Tomiwa Oyewo. Oyewo impressed last season with the Munich Ravens and will now look to make an impact for the Surge in 2025.
A strong March for the ELF

Teams are just making their finishing touches to their rosters and coaching staff, preparing for the May 17th kickoff.
Frankfurt adds D1 DBs coach
Following a busy week for the Frankfurt Galaxy, they’ve added Tom Mason to be their defensive back coach. Mason has coached for several D1 teams and was most recently with the Central Michigan Chippewas. He also has CFL and AAF experience.
Vienna Vikings add D1 offensive lineman
The Vienna Vikings made the splash signing of the week as the runner ups agreed to a contract with massive Swedish offensive lineman Victor Stoffel. Stoffel returns to European football for the first time since 2018 as he’s been a starter for the University California and Temple University over the past 6 seasons.
Raiders bring back homegrown star
Tobias Bonnatti is back in black as the Raiders Tirol extended the contract with one of the league’s best homegrown running backs. Bonnati nicknamed the “Italian Stallion” has recorded 1,997 yards and 25 touchdowns in 34 career games for the Raiders. He is the second all-time leader in rushing touchdowns in the ELF, with only Glen Toonga ahead of him.
Madrid signs Spanish veteran Cesare Brugnani
Brugnani joins the Madrid Bravos after spending the past three seasons with the Barcelona Dragons. The experienced outside linebacker will bring a ton of leadership, knowledge, and playmaking ability to the Madrid defense. In 42 games Brugnani has logged an impressive 205 tackles, 4 sacks, 16.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and 2 forced fumbles with 2 fumble recoveries.
X-Factor Hugo Tekedam stay home

Stuttgart Surge bring in young and proven talent
The Stuttgart Surge has re-signed defensive back Nick Wenzelburger. Wenzelburger, one of the more underrated homegrown defenders, has an impressive start line, with 143 tackles, 2 TFL, 9 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles in his career.
Pairing the experienced Wenzelburger with returning 21-year-old Sarrow Drammeh, could help build out this Surge secondary for 2025.
On the offensive end the Surge have also signed Albert Wiesigstrauch. Wiesigstrauch comes to southwestern Germany after spending the past 4 seasons with the Berlin Thunder.
The dangerous kick returner and running back had his best season last year, with 11 touchdowns and 851 yards from scrimmage last season, split almost evening between receiving and rushing.

Joining a already outstanding defensive line will be former Hamburg Sea Devils and Raiders Tirol pass rushers Robert Lachman and former All-Star Berend Grube. Veterans Dominic Siegel and Raphael Zistler also join the Surge. Zistler, a former NFL IPP prospect previously played for the Surge in 2023.

Surge builds dominant defensive line for 2025
The Stuttgart Surge is gearing up for the 2025 season with a powerful and experienced defensive line. Head Coach Jordan Neuman has brought back key players while adding new talent to create a unit capable of controlling the trenches and making life difficult for opposing offenses.
Experienced leaders return
Several core players from last season will continue to anchor the defensive front. Simon Butsch, who initially hinted at retirement, has decided to return, driven by his passion for the game and the ambition to win a championship at home. The 32-year-old veteran has been with Stuttgart since 2023 and brings years of experience, having won multiple German Bowls and CEFL titles in his career. Raphael Zistler also remains a key figure in the defensive line. Standing at 193 cm and weighing 136 kg, the former Schwäbisch Hall Unicorn and Karlsruhe Engineers standout has already played two seasons with the Surge and has gained international recognition with invitations to both the NFL and CFL International Combines.
Key playmakers extend their stay
Alexander Kress is another familiar face returning to the team. After playing in 26 games over the past two seasons and contributing with solid defensive performances, the 30-year-old is set for another year in Stuttgart. Sadik Busch, who joined the team last season, has extended his contract after a strong debut year where he recorded multiple tackles for loss and sacks. Determined to leave a lasting legacy in Stuttgart, the young defensive lineman is ready to take the next step. Maximilian Dommermuth, who has been with the Surge since 2023, also returns. His motivation comes from the belief that the team is on the right path and capable of achieving great things in 2025.
Leander Strathmann, who joined Stuttgart last year after playing in both Canada and the U.S., continues to add depth to the defensive unit. With experience at the Concordia Stingers and New Mexico Military Institute, he believes the team has yet to reach its full potential and is excited for what’s ahead.
The Surge also secured the return of Chris Mulumba, a player with an impressive international football background. The Finnish defensive lineman played NCAA Division I football at Colorado, was part of the NFL International Pathway Program in 2020, and spent three seasons in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. His physicality and experience will be crucial in leading the defensive front.
New faces strengthen the front
While Stuttgart retains many key contributors, the team has also made significant additions to the defensive line. One of the most notable newcomers is Dominic Siegel, who arrives from the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. Having won an ELF championship with the Vienna Vikings in 2022 and a German Bowl with the New Yorker Lions, Siegel brings championship experience and a relentless mindset. Another major signing is Berend Grube, a proven force in the ELF. With over 45 league games under his belt and a reputation as one of the most dominant linemen, Grube was an ELF All-Star in 2021 and ranked among the league’s Top 100 in 2023.
Robert Lachmann adds another layer of talent to the Surge’s defensive line. The former NCAA Division II Defensive Player of the Year played college football in the U.S. before returning to Europe, where he spent the past two seasons with the Hamburg Sea Devils and Tirol Raiders. With his ability to get to the quarterback, he is expected to be a disruptive force in Stuttgart’s defense.
Ready for the challenge
With a mix of veteran leadership, young rising stars, and internationally recognized talent, the Stuttgart Surge has built a defensive line capable of dominating in the European League of Football. The team is focused on one goal — bringing home a championship. With a strong core and key reinforcements, Stuttgart is ready to take on the best offenses in the league and establish itself as one of the toughest defenses in 2025.

Stuttgart Surge confirmed the move.
"His hard work has paid off"
"Lenny Krieg has made outstanding progress in the ELF and has been a formative player for Surge and our league over the past two years. Lenny Krieg’s journey in the International Player Pathway Program
After an outstanding season with Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football, kicker Lenny Krieg has been selected for the prestigious NFL International Player Pathway Program (IPPP). As a 1st Team All-Star and a nominee for Special Teams Player of the Year, Krieg’s performances made him one of the best kickers in Europe. Now, he has the opportunity to prove himself on the biggest stage.
A dream come true
For Krieg, receiving the invitation to the IPPP was an unforgettable moment. He found out about it through a phone call, and at first, he could hardly believe it. "It was a very special moment that didn’t feel real for the first few hours," he said. After years of hard work, this chance is a reward for his dedication to the game.
Representing Germany and inspiring others
Being part of the IPPP is not just a personal achievement for Krieg — it is also a chance to represent his country and inspire other athletes. "It is an honor to represent Germany and German athletes," he said. As one of the few European kickers in the program, he hopes his journey will encourage young players to believe in themselves. "Especially for young kickers from Europe, I hope to be an inspiration — to believe in themselves and their abilities."
The training focus of a kicker
Unlike most other players in the program, Krieg does not have to participate in traditional NFL Combine drills such as the 40-yard dash or bench press. His training is completely focused on kicking. "Since I don’t have to do Combine drills, my training is much more specific," he explained. "The most important thing is to kick ‘big balls’ and repeat it every time in the exact same way." His goal is to maintain a perfect process before, during, and after each kick, making consistency his top priority.
Learning from the best
When it comes to role models, Krieg looks to his family first. "My parents and my older brother are my biggest inspirations," he said. In football, he studies all NFL kickers, observing their different styles and techniques. "Every NFL kicker has their own form and routine, and I take inspiration from all of them."
Staying focused under pressure
The competition in the IPPP is tough, and only a few players will earn a spot in the NFL. However, Krieg stays calm and trusts his abilities. "I focus on my own process and my progress, making sure I am in the best shape possible." His mindset is clear — if he performs at his best, he will create his own opportunities.
With his disciplined approach and impressive kicking ability, Lenny Krieg has a real chance to make history. As he continues his journey in the IPPP, he remains focused on his ultimate goal: securing a spot in the NFL.

Tomiwa Oyewo's favorite memories, teammates, and inspirations
Football is not just about the present and the future — it is also about the unforgettable moments from the past. For Tomiwa Oyewo, one of his favorite memories on the field includes a spectacular 10-yard touchdown in 2023. What makes this play so special? It happened against his own team.
"It was only a 10-yard run, but it was a duo play, and I just scored on it. That’s my favorite play," he said.
But it wasn’t just the touchdown itself. Oyewo remembers a key moment in that play where he made an unexpected move to escape a sure tackle.
"I was supposed to be tackled at the one-yard line, maybe even behind the line of scrimmage. But something took over, and I just kept going. I really don’t know what happened, but I thank God for it."
Praise for his teammates
Oyewo also speaks highly of his teammates, especially quarterback Chad Jeffries. He believes Jeffries is often underestimated but is a fantastic player.
"You don’t expect what you get from Chad. People might think he is just a typical pocket passer, like Jared Goff, but he has that dog mentality. His athleticism is second to none."
He also talks about his new teammate Riley, someone he has played against many times in the past.
"I’ve seen a lot of Riley. I know what to expect, and I can tell he has that competitive spirit."
Learning from legends
When asked about his inspirations, Oyewo looks beyond football. He admires NBA legend Kobe Bryant, whose "Mamba Mentality" has taught him the importance of determination.
"You just have to be a dog," he says, referring to Kobe’s relentless work ethic.
Another major influence in his life is The Lion King. For him, it’s more than just a movie — it’s a lesson about growth and learning from past mistakes.
"It’s a great story about becoming who you are meant to be and trusting the process."
Memories that shape the future
From incredible plays to inspiring teammates and role models, Oyewo carries these memories and lessons with him as he continues his football journey.

Tomiwa Oyewo: A versatile weapon ready to dominate
Tomiwa Oyewo is known for his versatility on the field. Over the years, he has played both as a wide receiver and a running back, but he has a clear preference.
"I like getting the ball straight from the quarterback, reading my blocks, and getting upfield. That is what I am meant to do and what I feel I am best at," Oyewo explained.
His ability to catch passes also makes him a dangerous weapon in the offense. "Catching out of the backfield is one of my strengths. When I go up against linebackers, I feel like I have an advantage because of my background as a wide receiver," he said.
A strong team around him
Oyewo believes that his success also depends on the players around him. He is excited about Stuttgart Surge’s offensive line and how well they work together.
"You are only as good as your o-line. Having a good one makes all the difference," he said.
The chemistry in the team is another important factor. He feels that the team is well-prepared and ready to give their best. "We have great tight ends, receivers who are willing to block, and an offensive line that has been working together for years. It’s a real brotherhood," he added.
Growing as a player – learning from challenges
Oyewo’s journey has not always been easy. He has faced challenges, including injuries, but he sees them as learning experiences.
"Last season was a learning curve for me. It allowed me to show my versatility and taught me what it means to dig deep. I had to push myself," he said.
Despite setbacks, he remains confident in his abilities. "When I combine my 2023 season with my 2024 season, I honestly believe I am the most dominant running back in the league," he stated. This mindset has shaped his approach for the new season. He has developed a strong mentality that focuses on overcoming doubts and fears.
"I want to play with zero doubt, zero fear. You put in the work, trust God, and do your thing," Oyewo said about his motivation for 2025.

Tomiwa Oyewo joins Stuttgart Surge: a new challenge ahead
Tomiwa Oyewo has made a big move in his football career. The talented running back has joined Stuttgart Surge, a team that has played in the ELF finals and semi-finals. For Oyewo, the decision to join Stuttgart was not easy because his previous team and Stuttgart were rivals. However, after talking to the coaches and understanding their vision, he knew it was the right choice.
"I felt like Stuttgart had all the right pieces, and maybe I was that missing piece they needed," Oyewo said.
Not about the money – a feeling of belonging
Many teams were interested in signing Oyewo, but Stuttgart Surge felt like the best fit for him. He made it clear that money was not the reason for his decision.
"It wasn’t even the money or anything that really played a part in it. It just honestly felt right," he explained.
One of the key factors that convinced Oyewo was the strength of Stuttgart's offensive line. He was impressed by how well they worked together.
"Every position can work alone, but the o-line really has to work together. This is an o-line that has been playing together for years. It’s a real unit, a real brotherhood," he said.
Exciting season ahead – tough opponents waiting
Oyewo is excited for the upcoming ELF season and looking forward to facing strong teams. He especially wants to play against Paris, a team that eliminated his previous team in the quarterfinals.
"Paris is going to be fun, especially in Paris. Last year we lost against them in the quarterfinals, so I still have a bit of a grudge," he admitted.
He also sees Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Hungary as serious competitors and is eager to play against them.
"Every team this year is much better than last year. I think every game will be a great challenge," he said.
A new mindset – playing with no fear
Oyewo has a new mindset for the 2024 season. He will wear the number 0 jersey, and for him, it has a deep meaning.
"I’m taking number 0 this year, not because it’s flashy, but for what it stands for: zero doubt and zero fear. I want to play with no doubt, no fear. When I put on that jersey, I tell myself: you put in the work, trust God, and do your thing," he explained.
With this mindset, a strong team around him, and a clear goal in mind, Oyewo is ready to make a big impact with Stuttgart Surge in the 2024 season.Get your tickets to the 2025 ELF Championship Games now!

The European League of Football finished its fourth season. It is now time to figure out what teams will move in the right direction for the fifth season in 2025! Will it be teams with previous losing records emerging as contenders? Will Rhein Fire stay dominant? Who are the best players coming into the season? When are you able to draft your lineups for Fantasy Football?
Those are questions that you may ask yourself and we are here to give you the best possible answer! If you have a question and want it to be answered in a future article, please look out on the league’s social channels every Monday.
iamcadeyoung: How do you get recruited?
There are a lot of different ways to get recruited by a team of the European League of Football. The easiest and most common way for homegrown European players is to play for a regional football team and then perform at try-outs. However, if you are already a proven player or even compete(d) in the United States collegiate system, teams can also review your film. If you want to reach out to a team, feel free to contact them via their respective team websites.
b1ak3varg__: Just getting into the ELF and still can’t decide on a team! What is an underdog team like Buffalo?
Thank you for your question. The European League of Football will kick off its fifth season with 16 teams in 2025. There are a lot of great storylines coming into this year because of multiple moving parts. However, if you are looking for a team that was close to reaching the playoffs or lost in the wild card round over the last years, it is the Madrid Bravos.
In their first ELF season, the Madrid Bravos came up swinging. By doing the unthinkable as a new franchise, the Spanish team even made it to the playoffs but lost the 2024 ELF Champions Rhein Fire 40-10 in the Wild Card Round. But they have hired Rhein Fire’s offensive coordinator Andrew Weidinger as their new head coach. Alongside other great hires, the Spanish franchise made some blockbuster moves and signed impact players from different teams all over the European continent.
So, if you want to jump their a bandwagon before the Madrid Bravos take off, now is your time to join the party!
j.ravelo__: When do rosters usually get finalized by?
Thank you for your question! The roster of a team in the European League of Football gets finalized close to the start of the season. This year, the ELF kicks off on the 17th May. So, you can expect your favorite team to have a finalized roster a few weeks prior. However, keep in mind that rosters in American football contain a large number of players which is why there will always be some fluctuation, e.g. player signings, cuts or even injuries.

"He was better than most of the Americans" - ELF star Lenny Krieg performed at the NFL Combine
ELF kicker Lenny Krieg is one step closer to his goal of playing in the world's most prestigious American football league, the NFL. The Stuttgart Surge kicker was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine as part of the NFL International Pathway Program.
And Krieg knew how to convince. The 22-year-old converted all of his 14 field goal attempts from various distances between 35 and 55 yards. Krieg was the only kicker on the day to make no mistakes.
According to a report by ESPN, the ELF star immediately caught the attention of several NFL scouts. “He was better than most of the Americans,” says one of them. Krieg was therefore able to deliver and has a good chance of actually making the move to the NFL.
Before him, two other former ELF players, Adedayo Odeleye (formerly Thunder, now Baltimore Ravens) and Marcel Dabo (formerly Surge, now Indianapolis Colts), have already achieved this. In addition to Krieg, offensive tackle Leander Wiegand (Munich Ravens), defensive back Maceo Beard (Paris Musketeers) and punter Bastian Roppelt (Frankfurt Galaxy) are also part of this year's NFL IPP program.

“Great sign” - Esume praises ELF player's inclusion in the NFL IPP Program
The European League of Football once again serves as a potential stepping stone into the best league in the world. The National Football League officially announced on Thursday (27th February) that, after offensive tackle Leander Wiegand from the Munich Ravens, two more ELF players have been accepted into the International Player Pathway program (IPPP) for the 2025 season: punter Bastian Roppelt from Frankfurt Galaxy and kicker Lenny Krieg from Stuttgart Surge.
“This is great news for the players, their franchises and, of course, for the league as a whole. The fact that three guys have been given the opportunity to recommend themselves for an NFL contract after a strong season in the ELF is a great sign that we have taken another huge step forward in terms of quality and are also being recognized in North America,” says Patrick Esume, Commissioner of the European League of Football.
Leander Wiegand has been part of the IPP Class 2025 since December, and this week Bastian Roppelt and Lenny Krieg also traveled to the USA to train with the coaching staff at the IMG Academy in Bradenton (Florida). The trio want to use their opportunity at the Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to impress the general managers and coaches of the 32 NFL teams.

NFL IPP: The major opportunity to make a name for yourself
Founded in 2017, the IPP program is designed to give international players the opportunity to compete at NFL level, improve their skills and ultimately secure a spot on an NFL roster. In 2024, the IPP was expanded to include “Specialists” for the first time. It is part of a long-term commitment by the NFL and its 32 franchises to support efforts to develop football globally.
The goal of the Scouting Combine is to provide NFL teams with a detailed assessment of the physical and mental performance of potential draft candidates. To this end, the players complete a series of tests and exercises that analyze their strengths and weaknesses in various areas.
Roppelt, Krieg and Wiegand are not the first ELF stars to try to recommend themselves via the IPP. In 2022, Adedayo Odeleye (formerly Thunder, now Baltimore Ravens) and Marcel Dabo (formerly Surge, now Indianapolis Colts) made their way into the NFL via the prestigious program.

BREAKING - Five European specialists join NFL IPP Program
The NFL has officially announced the addition of five new specialists to the International Player Pathway (IPP) Program 2025, marking a significant moment for international athletes aiming for a career in the league. Among them are two Germans, two Irishmen, and one Italian, all of whom will showcase their skills at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week.
This year’s inclusion of kickers and punters in the IPP program follows the success of last year’s expansion, which saw Irish kicker Charlie Smyth earn a place on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. Now, five new hopefuls are looking to follow in his footsteps.
The two German specialists now have the chance to jump from the European League of Football straight to the National Football League, just like former Stuttgart Surge defensive back Marcel Dabo back in 2022.
The five specialists fighting for an NFL future
The five international specialists added to the 2025 IPP class are:
Bastian Roppelt (Germany, 24, Punter) – A standout punter from Frankfurt Galaxy in the European League of Football (ELF).
Lenny Krieg (Germany, 22, Kicker) – Representing Stuttgart Surge, Krieg has made a name for himself as one of the most accurate kickers in Europe. He was able to convert 11 of 16 field goals and 66 out of 75 extra points for the Surge in 2024.
Mark McNamee (Ireland, 25, Kicker) – The Irish kicker has impressed with his consistency and range, making him a valuable addition to the program.
Ross Bolger (Ireland, 23, Kicker) – Known for his strong leg, Bolger has the potential to develop into an elite-level NFL kicker after suiting up for the University of Idaho in previous years.
Jonata Loria (Italy, 24, Kicker) – Italy’s top kicking prospect, Loria has excelled in the international football scene and is now taking the next step toward the NFL.
The inclusion of specialists in the IPP program is a game-changer, as it allows international athletes to compete for a practice squad spot with one of the 32 NFL teams. Each team can allocate one extra roster spot specifically for an international player, offering a unique opportunity for these athletes to break into the league.
NFL Scouting Combine - The ultimate test
Now, all eyes are on the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium, where these five specialists will attempt to impress NFL scouts, coaches, and general managers. Their performances in kicking drills, accuracy tests, and power metrics could determine whether they land a contract with an NFL franchise.
For these athletes, the Combine is more than just a showcase—it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to prove they belong on football’s biggest stage. With international players gaining more recognition in the NFL, the journey of Roppelt, Krieg, McNamee, Bolger, and Loria could be the start of a new wave of global special teams talent in the league.
Will one of them become the next international success story? The next few days could shape their football future forever.
