The Hamburg Sea Devils will face Rhein Fire this Saturday, June 14, at 18:00 CET in Düsseldorf’s Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. After a strong 31–14 home win over Berlin Thunder, Hamburg enters Week 5 full of confidence. But now, a tough challenge awaits - a road game against the defending champions.

Changes in Düsseldorf, confidence in Hamburg

It’s been a week of big changes for Rhein Fire. Head Coach Jim Tomsula and Offensive Coordinator Ed Warinner have both left the team. Wide Receiver Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Mario Schulz will take over offensive play-calling as interim OC for the important North Division matchup. A permanent replacement is expected to be announced next week.

Despite these changes, Hamburg is preparing for a hard-fought game. "We know it’s going to be a tough game - no question", said Sea Devils Defensive Line Coach Marius Hauber. "But we have the chance to go 3–2, and that’s something we’re excited about. Our focus is now fully on the preparation."

Hauber believes in his unit: "Our defense has shown in recent weeks that it can dominate games - that’s what we’re building on. We know what we’re capable of and we want to show it again this weekend."

Reunion game for Lasse Meyer

For Hamburg safety Lasse Meyer, this game is special. The former Rhein Fire player won the 2023 ELF Championship in Düsseldorf and now returns to face his former teammates: "I’m looking forward to playing against Rhein Fire. It’s always something special to go up against your old team", he said. "I enjoyed my time there and I have many friends on that side. I can’t wait to compete with them - and maybe throw in some friendly trash talk."

While Rhein Fire might be seen as the favorite, Hamburg brings confidence. "Even if many see us as the underdog, we go into this game with full belief in ourselves", Meyer added. "If we play to our potential and avoid mistakes, we can beat any team in this league - even the champion."
