The Vienna Vikings have re-signed local tight end and wide receiver Florian Bierbaumer. The potential candidate for comeback-player of the year joined the Vienna Vikings in their first ever season, winning the Championship trophy in Klagenfurt in September.
The 1,98 m and 120 kg target for quarterback Chris Helbig had three touchdowns and 216 yards in three games for the Vikings before being out for season after week three. Being one of the most dominant players that stepped on the field last year, Bierbaumer had three touchdowns against local rival Raiders Tirol in week one.
Bierbaumer: "I loved every second as a Viking on the field in my first season in the European League of Football. Due to an injury, my season was shorter than planned, but I am ready to be back. Stronger than ever. Now, I can’t wait to get started with the team and do everything in my power to defend the title with Vienna.”
Head coach Chris Calaycay, who will act as the head coach for the 2023 season, as well: "Not everyone got to see #89 on the field for the Vikings, but if you did, you know how special this guy is. Florian is back from his injury, and we have one of the best and biggest targets in the European League of Football."
