Why the Surge will reach the playoffs in 2023

The Surge did not win a single game last season. But here is why they are going to reach to reach the playoffs in 2023!

The Stuttgart Surge made massive changes to their franchise over the course of the offseason which could allow them to reach the playoffs for the first time ever in franchise history! And here is how:

HC Jordan Neuman

The Stuttgart Surge had a turbulent season last year as far as their head coaching position is concerned. They started the year out with Martin Hanselmann in charge who later resigned as the head coach. George Streeter then took over as the interim head coach. But no matter the coaching change, the Surge could not win a single game in 2022.

As their first move in the right direction, the Surge announced the hiring of former Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns head coach Jordan Neuman. Neuman brings experience, leadership, high-level coaching, and stability to a franchise that desperately needs it. The American head coach also functions as a magnet for talented players who signed with the Surge after the move was made official.

As a coach, Neuman has won three German Bowls and two CEFL Bowls. If someone can lead the Surge the promised land in 2023, it is Neuman.

QB Reilly Hennessey

I already mentioned Neuman being a magnet for talented players from all over Europe. Shortly after the Surge announced the hiring of Neumann, former Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns and Parma Panthers quarterback Reilly Hennessey signed with the Surge for the 2023 season.

Hennessey is by far the best quarterback the Surge have ever had on their roster. In 2022, the 26-year-old American completed astonishing 72.6% of his passes over the entire season. As he is already comfortable under Neuman as the head coach, Hennessey should thrive on the biggest stage for American football in Europe. Look out for him to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season.

Have you seen this yet?

The Central Conference

If having a great head coach with a lot of experience and one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league under center is not enough, the Surge quite possibly will compete in the easiest conference this season.

Next to the Surge, the Central Conference features the Milano Seamen, the Helvetic Guards, Barcelona Dragons, Tirol Raiders, and Munich Ravens. Half of the conference will play their first season in the European League of Football which will be a challenge in itself.

As far as the Dragons and Raiders are concerned, both franchises lost their starting quarterbacks from last season. The Dragons even lost triple-crown winner Kyle Sweet to the Paris franchise. So, look out for the Surge to make some noise in their conference early on this year!

Experienced players across the board

The Stuttgart Surge not only have a great head coach, a promising quarterback, and a doable schedule, they also have signed experienced players across the board.

For example, signing former Wroclaw Panthers defensive back Goran Zec or former Tirol Raiders wide receiver Yannick Mayr will certainly pay dividends. Players of that caliber are able to lead their position groups and even their side of the ball with their experience and success in past seasons on the highest level of American football Europe has ever seen.

And do not forget about 2022 Cologne Centurions wide receiver Louis Geyer who will return to the Surge this season. Geyer paired up with Mayr and Paul Steigerwald will be valuable weapons for quarterback Hennessey in his first year with the Surge.

All around, with all the mentioned assets, Stuttgart is poised for a breakout campaign in Jordan Neuman's first season as the Surge head coach!
