Vikings keep talented homegrown duo
The Vienna Vikings sign the next homegrown talents. Running back Benny Liedlbauer and wide receiver Emil Eckerstorfer have both signed new contracts with the Vienna Vikings until 2026.
Liedlbauer made his debut in the ELF last season. As a backup for star running back Karri Pajarinen, he recorded 46 carries for 277 rushing yards and two touchdowns. “I'm glad to be back with the Vikings for the next two years. Last year was really exciting, and I'm proud to be a part of this fantastic team. I can't wait to give it all for the team and be back on the field with my teammates next season,” says the only 23-year-old Liedlbauer.
Teammate Eckerstorfer has already been part of head coach Chris Calaycay's team for two years. While his first ELF year was still characterized by injuries, he was able to play 13 games last season. He caught five passes for 62 yards.
"I love my teammates, love the organization, so to re-sign was a no-brainer for me. I look forward to keep contributing to this team - on and off the field", says Eckerstorfer.
Coach Calaycay is excited about both deals: "Emil and Benny have proven to be incredible performers and have proven that they contribute to our success. Every time they have had the opportunity to show what they can do they have delivered. I am happy that these two Homegrown talents are back with us in 2025."
Eckerstorfer is the third wideout to extend his contract with the Vikings, after Noah Touré and Reece Horn. Liedlbauer is the second running back after Pajarinen.
