Sunday recap late games: No trouble for Rhein Fire, close battle in Hamburg

Four German franchises took to the pitch in the late window on Sunday. While Rhein Fire is still looking to secure the bye week in the playoffs and dircetly qualify for the semi final, the Cologne Centurions, Hamburg Sea Devils  and Berlin Thunder are looking to end the season on a good note, despite missing out on the postseason.

Let's dive right in!

Berlin Thunder (5-7) at Rhein Fire (11-1)

Final: 14-47

Rhein Fire ended the regular season with an exclamation mark. The German franchise, which will not play again next week as it has already played all twelve games of the season, quickly set the course for victory against Berlin Thunder.

Star running back Glen Toonga once again impressed with 144 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Jadrian Clark played solidly and flawlessly for most of the time, throwing two touchdowns.

Rhein Fire's offensive line also deserves praise, taking Thunder star Kyle Kitchens out of the game for the most part and repeatedly creating good holes for the rushing attack.

Berlin's passing game never really got going, Jakeb Sullivan threw two interceptions and provided little rhythm. At least running back Albert Wiesigstrauch was able to find a few gaps. The shifty ball carrier collected 78 yards and a touchdown.

As Rhein Fire turns the attention to the postseason, Berlin Thunder will look to regroup in the upcoming offseason. The Thunder have also already played twelve games and will be on bye week.

Cologne Centurions (5-6) at Hamburg Sea Devils (2-9)

Final: 30-23

The Hamburg Sea Devils were unable to celebrate a win in their second last home game of the season. In an entertaining and close game, they lost to the visitors from Cologne. Although both teams had already been eliminated from the playoff race before the game, they were still able to offer the numerous spectators an entertaining game.

The first half was particularly impressive, with a total of 37 points scored. Quarterback Isaiah Weed was once again the difference-maker for the Centurions. The dual-threat quarterback collected 310 passing yards and a touchdown through the air and 137 yards and two touchdowns as a runner.

The 46-yard touchdown run, in which Weed juked several defenders, was particularly memorable. On the other side, D'Angelo Fullford threw for two touchdowns. Offensive playmaker Tobias Nill collected 76 rushing yards and 39 receiving yards.
