Former Wyoming Cowboys linebacker Luis Bach joins the Stuttgart Surge.
The Stuttgart Surge have announced the signing of linebacker Luis Bach for the 2023 season. Bach joins homegrown players like Nikolas Knoblauch, Sasan Jelvani or Thomas Frach. The 28-year-old already played for a division 1 program in the USA and joins the team from the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns to play on the best possible level in Europe. The experienced defender will strengthen the Stuttgart Surge, growing up and playing for the Franken Knights from 2006 to 2013 around 150 km away from Stuttgart.
Luis Bach: „I chose to play for the Stuttgart Surge to take on a new challenge and experience what the European League of Football is like. The coaching staff and roster moves played a big role in my decision and I see a lot of potential for the upcoming season. My goal is to contribute in any way possible to help us win.”
At 1,89 m and 100 kg, the German native was selected to the Mountain West All-Academic Team in 2015 while playing for the Wyoming Cowboys, transferring to the Black Hills State University in South Dakota from 2016 to 2019. There, he was being honored as Defensive Newcomer in 2016 and team captain in 2018. Back in Germany, Bach was named Defensive MVP in the 2022 season, wracking up three interceptions, 39 total tackles and one tackle for loss for the Unicorns in the GFL. Bach seamlessly joins Surge's strong transfer streak so far.
