Rhein Fire's key moments on the way to the final
The Rhein Fire are back in the ELF Championship Game looking to become the first ever back to back champions in the ELF. Let’s take a look at some of the key moments this season for the defending champions
The defending champions were shocked as the expansion Madrid Bravos defeated them at home in Week 2 of the ELF season. The Rhein FIre were without several key players in that game, however they weren't able to stop a Bravos team that was playing with nothing too loose. The loss gave the Rhein Fire their first defeat in 16 games dating back to 2022.
Following the loss to Madrid, the Rhein Fire looked vulnerable for the first time since 2022. The Paris Musketeers looked to take advantage of that at home hosting defending champs. What ensued next was a back and forth game that saw Glen Toonga once again remind everyone that this is his team, carrying them to a hard fought 19-14 win.
After two close games and a loss, the Rhein Fire seemed to find their stride once again in Week 6 as they avenged their loss to Madrid defeating them on the road 40-15. What happened next was seven straight games of the Rhein Fire blowing out their opponents, outsourcing them 307 to 67 during that stretch.
The Rhein Fire breezed by the Madrid Bravos and found themselves on the Road against the 2023 runner-ups the Stuttgart Surge. After nearly three quarters of the Surge controlling the game, the Rhein Fire found a way to force overtime and win. The team struggled to move the ball in the wet weather but two huge interceptions from Till Jansen and Omari Williams late in the game changed the tide and swung momentum their way. In the end it was kicker Sebastian Van Santen who made the clutch kick in poor weather to get them back to the title game.
