Helvetic Mercenaries sign defensive coordinator Michael Wood

The Helvetic Mercenaries continue to be active this off-season adding their first coordinator to join new head coach Marcus Herford. 

Wood brings with him a plethora of european experience including several years as the head coach for teams in Italy, Germany, and France. Prior to coaching in Europe Wood coached for Ithaca college, Columbia University, Pomona-Pitzer College, and Chapman University in the US.

The former Ohio State Buckeye defensive back, who played in four bowl games including the Rose Bowl, has built up an impressive coaching resume over the past 30 years following the end of his playing career which included two seasons with Germany’s Kempten Comets, as well as two champions with the Milano Seamen in Italy. 

Wood has also coached in the ELF before as a defensive assistant with the Barcelona Dragons back in 2021. He spent last season as DC of the Helsinki Roosters in Finland, helping them win the 2024 Maple Bowl.
