ELF returnee Marcus Herford named new Mercenaries Head Coach

The Helvetic Mercenaries have a new head coach. In the future, the team will be led by Marcus Herford. The 39-year-old US-American will replace Bryan Billy.

The team reacts to a disappointing season. The Swiss finished with a record of 1-11 and last place in the Central Conference.

„I am absolutely thrilled to join the Helvetic Mercenaries Organization. I want to thank the management team for entrusting me to lead their organization. I look forward to meeting all the players, personnel and getting the off season started. Helvetic Fans, get ready for a new brand of football that you all will be proud of. Let’s Gooooo!!!”, Herford commented the move.

Mercenaries General Manager Chris Rummel is also very excited about the signing: “We are very pleased to have found the perfect candidate for our head coach position with Marcus. Not only does Marcus bring experience from Europe, but he also recently demonstrated what je can bring out of a team and how he can further develop it. From the very first conversation, there was a sense of familiarity that created excitement for the upcoming work for all parties involved. We are confident that with Marcus, we have found the long-term leader for our team.”

Herford recently coached the Hildesheim Invaders for two years. He led the team to the semi-finals of the German Football League. His contract expired at the end of the season. Instead of an extension, Herford decided to move to the Mercenaries.

It's not his first stop at the ELF. Herford already coached the Berlin Thunder in 2021. At that time under Head Coach Jag Bal.
