Björn Werner named Colts' Ambassador for Germany and Austria

The Indianapolis Colts have announced the next steps in their international expansion into Germany and Austria. A key part of this initiative is the appointment of former Colts player Björn Werner as the official team ambassador for these countries.

Björn Werner, who played linebacker for the Colts from 2013 to 2015, is now a prominent figure in European football. After his NFL career, he became one of the leading commentators and experts on American football in Germany. Werner is a co-owner and the sports director of Berlin Thunder in the European League of Football, where he plays a significant role in shaping the team.

As the Colts’ ambassador, Werner will promote the Colts brand in Germany and Austria, represent the team at public events, and build connections with fans. He will also advise on business and marketing strategies in these regions.

The Colts' expansion plans follow their inclusion in the NFL’s Global Markets Program (GMP) last March. This program allows NFL teams to access international markets and is part of a long-term strategy to grow the NFL fanbase beyond the United States. The Colts plan to increase fan engagement, support business development, and promote opportunities for young people to learn and participate in football, including the growth of flag football.
