The Wroclaw Panthers are heading into the final stretch of the regular season with their playoff hopes still alive - but the path is far from easy. Sitting at 5-5, the Polish team faces a steep challenge: two of their toughest matchups of the season against the Vienna Vikings and the Munich Ravens. And even if they win both, their postseason destiny isn’t fully in their own hands. They will need some help from other teams slipping up in the final two weeks to sneak into the playoff picture.

No fear of tough opponents

Despite the uphill battle, linebacker AJ Wentland believes the Panthers are built for this moment. “We know that we can compete with anyone in the league. We have two tough opponents these last weeks, and we are excited for the challenge. We want to play and beat the best and get into the playoffs,” Wentland said.

For him and his team, it’s about proving they belong among the ELF’s top contenders, even if the playoff picture is currently crowded.

Preparing for elite competition

The Panthers have already faced both the Vikings and Ravens this season. That experience gives them confidence but also a clear understanding of what needs to improve. “We enjoy playing tough opponents. We have already played both opponents and know they are worthy opponents. We have to be at our best and eliminate mistakes, create takeaways and make big plays in all three phases of the game to beat these top teams,” Wentland explained.

These matchups won’t just test their talent but also their resilience.

Playing full four quarters

One of the biggest takeaways from this season for the Panthers is that they can hang with anyone - but often only for part of the game. Wentland believes this is the key to their playoff push: “We just have to keep improving each week. We have to capitalize on our big plays and on our opponents’ mistakes. We need to play complementary football on both sides of the ball. We are very close to where we want to be.”

That consistency over four quarters, he said, will make the difference between a solid effort and a playoff spot.

Leadership on and off the field

As one of the team’s leaders, Wentland takes pride in his role as the defensive anchor. “As the season has progressed I am happy with the way that I have played for my team. My goal is to make everyone around me better and to lead my team to victory. I want to be the best that I can be on every single play and give full effort in maximizing my own potential as well as everyone on the team, especially my defense,” he said.

He also highlighted his responsibilities in organizing the defense: “I am often responsible for getting everyone lined up and communicating the play calls and checks, and I enjoy making things difficult for the opposing offenses. These last two weeks I want us all to come together and play at the level that I know we can to be an elite defensive unit.”

Toughness defines the Panthers

Even if their record doesn’t tell the whole story, Wentland believes the Panthers have gained respect across the league: “I think that we as Panthers play with toughness and tenacity. We give full effort on every play. Although we are 5-5 right now, we have earned the respect of every opponent that we have played. We have often played teams very closely through the first three quarters. We just have to finish and play all four quarters.”

Playoffs still within reach - but not guaranteed

With two games left and so many teams still in the playoff race, Wroclaw knows that even perfection on their side won’t be enough if other results don’t go their way. To keep their dream alive, they not only need to beat two of the league’s best teams but also hope that their playoff rivals slip up in the final weeks.

The mission is clear: win out, keep fighting, and let the rest of the picture fall into place.
