West Virginia University visits Rhein Fire before the 2024 season

Football is about the people, and now there is a great connection between last year's European champion and a true Division I-program. A delegation of around 30 people from the West Virginia Mountaineers, the well-known NCAA Division I team from West Virginia University, visited Rhein Fire's front office on as part of their current European trip - with players immediately connecting through the sport.

Football is Family

After a welcome from CEO Max Paatz, Fire head coach Jim Tomsula answered questions from the group of football players, coaches and staff members about the ELF and European football. “Thank you to Coleman Barnes, Senior Associate Athletics Director, and the Mountaineers for your visit. Each year, the University provides outstanding athletes with an intercollegiate trip to Europe as part of WVU's 5th Quarter Program and Chambers Elite Climbers. We are honored to have been a part of this trip this year. We will remain in close contact for the future and wish HC Neal Brown's team all the best for the upcoming season in the BIG 12,” says Rhein Fire CEO Max Paatz.

WVU ranks 14th in victories among NCAA FBS programs, as well as the most victories among those programs that until now never claimed nor won a National Championship.
