Week 11 Takeaways – Are the Ravens and Thunder ready for the playoffs?
There was a lot going on in the European League of Football this week! But what are the takeaways?
Week 11 of the regular season is in the books. Clear-cut wins and thrilling fourth-quarter endings were all part of the past weekend. But what are the major takeaways before the league head to Week 12?
The Munich Ravens are coming off a big win after the bye week. In a tough matchup, the Bavarian franchise was able to fight off the 7-2 Stuttgart Surge on the road with a final score of 32-30. Although the Surge re-activated Reilly Hennessey of their injured reserve list, the Munich Ravens were able to land punch after punch to end up on top.
With their 5-4 record in the Central conference, the Ravens are still behind the now 7-2 Surge and the 7-2 Tirol Raiders. But with three weeks left to play in the regular season, the Ravens made a huge step towards sneaking in the playoffs. Only time will tell if they end up in the post-season. But to have a positive record this deep into the season is a major accomplishment for a first-year franchise.
Surprisingly, the Panthers were able to lead against the undefeated Vikings for almost the entire game. It took the reigning champion to score twice in the last six minutes of the fourth quarter to take the lead and get away with the win in Poland. But what does that mean for the Panthers and their playoff hopes?
The Panthers currently sit in third place with a 6-4 record while the Berlin Thunder (6-3) moved up one spot after winning against the Prague Lions. In Week 12, the two teams will meet in a head-to-head matchup which will be one of the most-anticipated games of this season yet.
The Berlin Thunder are now 6-3 after winning against the Prague Lions. This win moved them up to second place in the Eastern Conference. The Lions were no match for the Thunder who outplayed the Czech opponent in almost every phase of the game.
As already mentioned, the Thunder Week 12 matchup against the Wroclaw Panthers will decide who is going to advance to the playoffs. For the Berlin Thunder, a spot in the post-season would be the first-ever taste of the playoffs. On top of that, the first matchup between these two teams was won by the Thunder. However, the Panthers are looking as strong as ever with their new Leipzig Kings additions in linebacker A.J. Wentland and William James.
