The Vienna Vikings have brought back two familiar faces to lead their offense  this upcoming season. On defense the 2024 runner ups have signed 2024 tight ends coach Nick Johansen to be thier offensive coordinator.

Experience and knowledge at OC

Nick Johansen takes over as offensive coordinator for the Vikings after joining them mid-season last year as their tight ends coach. Johansen brings with him decades of coaching experience in Austria including many years of working with head coach Chris Calaycay on the Austrian national team. Johansen has coached for the Graz Giants and also been head coach of the Salzburg Ducks in the past. Now he looks forward to a new challenge in the ELF:

How we prepare and work to being in a conversation like that is a direct correlation to our expectations as an offense to play a very exciting and explosive brand of football. It is exhilarating putting the pieces of the puzzle together at this point of the preparation and finding the formations and plays that fit our players and personnel."

"Every year is a new year, and you start again from square one; the offensive staff is working tirelessly to provide Vienna with a championship level offense. Bringing back Ben Holmes for a second year and getting to work with him in a new role is very exhilarating. With so many early morning / late night conversations and film studies already taken place last season and throughout the offseason building the 2025 Vikings offense around him and our personnel really brings joy to the process."

Vikings head coach has a ton of respect for Johansen and is happy to bring his colleague from the national team into a bigger role in Vienna:

"Coach Johansen has over a decade of experience in Europe, and we have worked together at the Austrian National Team and last ELF season when he joined mid-season as our Tight Ends’ Coach. Nick is as experienced as they come with European Football.  Our entire off-season has been focused on the continuity of this team, and this continues with signing Nick Johansen as our Offensive Coordinator. All the pieces for our offense to be the top in the European League of Football are being put in place, and I’m excited for Coach Johansen to lead our offense in 2025."
