Vienna Vikings’ head coach: "Overall, the team is much healthier"

The second week of the European League of Football is right around the corner, and we can expect a few teams coming out of the gates with full speed in their first game in 2023.

While the season has started for some, other teams like the Vienna Vikings, Milano Seamen and Stuttgart Surge start their season now. In Vienna, the dream of a European crown had become reality in last September. Now, looking at the Berlin Thunder as their next opponent, Vienna Vikings head coach seems even more optimistic about the situation in the Austrian capital. "Overall, the team is much healthier. [...] We are ready to go and can’t wait to step on the field", Chris Calaycay said, looking at a league where the level of play has grown even more in the off season. Berlin Thunder, a sleeping giant in the east of Germany, seems self-confident after a statement win in Fehérvár last Sunday.

Revitalized and ready to go

For the Stuttgart Surge, the Paris Musketeers and an old opponent appear. Zach Edwards, quarterback of the Musketeers, is suiting up to beat the Surge once again. In his last four games against the Surge, he won three. But did he win them against this Surge team? Most likely, we have never seen a Surge team like this. New head coach, new quarterback, new system. The mindset? Completely revitalized. Coach Jordan Neuman and Marc Mattioli know how to win championships. Looking at their rosters, a showdown shows itself on the horizon.

Seamen to conquer the league by storm

The Seamen also head into their first game of the season. Football fever has broken out in the marketplace in Milan. And not only there. The franchise has gained some serious strength in the off season. Quarterback Zahradka has stayed, can look forward to the league's best receiver in recent years in Jéan Constant. Trouble is what the Dragons want. A completely new team under Coach Sanchez? Not quite. The underdog mentality has remained. Three franchises enter service in the European League of Football. Three that want to get to the top directly.
