Vienna Vikings came close to perfection in 2024

The Vienna Vikings enter the off-season follwoing a tough loss in the championship game of the Rhein Fire. The team from the Austrian capital was able to go 13-0 en-route to the championship game, defeating the Paris Musketeers in the semi-finals following a perfect regular season. Ultimately they fell just short of the perfect season last year, nearly become the second team in ELF history too finish 14-0 (2023 Rhein Fire).

The undefeated regular season was their second consecutive perfect regular season after achieving that feat in 2023.

A League Leading Offense

The Vikings were led by head coach Chris Calaycay once again this season getting them very close to another championship after hosting the trophy in 2022.

Offensively quarterback Ben Holmes was the conductor of the league top passing offense as he was able to find receivers Reece Horn, Noah Toure, and others often. Holmes missed a few games to injury and the Vikings didn’t miss a beat as veteran Shelton Eppler stepped in and stepped up helping the Vikings win three games during that stretch.

Running back Karri Pajarinnen ran for over one thousand yards as the Austrian offensive line helped pave the way for a strong rushing attack.

A Defense With Sky-High Potential

Defensively several young players stepped up for Vienna including defensive rookie of the year nominee Niki Terlizta. Finnish import Elmeri Laalo and Austrian defensive back Benjamin Straight were two standouts that made several huge plays for defense throughout the season.

Looking ahead to 2025 the team will retain most of its core including Holmes, Toure, Horn, Pajarinen, Laalo, Holub, Gerner, and others. Look for the Vikings to be a pre-season title favorite once again.
