This is why Galaxy decided to sign Bart Andrus
After a disappointing season, Frankfurt Galaxy are pulling out all the stops to become a playoff contender again in 2025. "The goal must be to fully attack the playoffs again after this season", explained former coach and new sports director Thomas Kösling on Wednesday.
New head coach Bart Andrus should be at the centre of the upswing. "He checks all the boxes we were looking for. We wanted a professional, someone with absolute experience", said Kösling. And Andrus will not be the Galaxy's only full-time coach. "Bart Andrus will be the full-time head coach and offensive coordinator. We will also bring in a full-time defensive coordinator and another full-time offensive line coach. Those are the three areas that we have recognised and that we wanted to do something about."
Andrus' experience with the special requirements of an ELF coach - the relatively short preparation time - spoke in his favour. He knows this well - from his time in the NFL Europe. "In the ELF, you have five to six weeks to prepare a team for the season. Bart Andrus did exactly that in the NFL Europe. He had a new team every year and he worked with homegrowns. And he did that very successfully back then. He is a coach who knows what it takes to bring a team together in a short space of time, give it an identity and make it successful."
That's what drives Frankfurt the most - that last season went so badly. "Frankfurt Galaxy has a certain level. 'Galaxy reloaded' should send out the message: We may be changing, but we're not taking a step backwards, we're moving forwards. We want to improve." And above all: get back to the playoffs.
