The Nominees for Special Teams Player of the Year

Not only is the final getting closer, but so are the ELF Honors, where players and coaches will be recognized for their performances during the regular season across 11 different categories.

One of these awards recognizes the best player on special teams. The recipient has excelled in roles like kicking, punting, or returning, making crucial plays that helped their team win games. All kickers, punters, and returners are eligible to win this award.

Let’s take a look at the nominees for the Special Teams Player of the Year award:

Surge Kicker – Lenny Krieg:

Lenny Krieg had a strong season for Stuttgart Surge. The Surge, with an almost perfect season, relied on their offense to score many touchdowns, and they had Krieg as a reliable option for field goals and PATs. Krieg made 11 out of 16 field goals and 66 out of 75 PATs, scoring a total of 99 points. This makes him the highest-scoring kicker of the season.

Ravens Kicker – Robert Werner:

Robert Werner also had an excellent season, especially known for his accuracy. He hit 78.57% of his field goals and 85.29% of his PATs. The Ravens' offense could always rely on Werner’s precision, and with 91 points, he is just behind Lenny Krieg as the second-highest scoring kicker of the season.

Panthers Returner – Devan Burrell:

No one in the 2024 season was better at returning the ball than Devan Burell from the Wroclaw Panthers. Burell was hard to tackle and consistently gave his Panthers great field position with his returns. He scored 4 return touchdowns, making him the best returner of the season. His return averages were also impressive, with 12.33 yards per punt return and 37.22 yards per kickoff return.

The winners will be announced on September 21 at the ELF Honors.
