The Nominees for Defensive Rookie of the Year
Not only is the final getting closer, but so are the ELF Honors, where players and coaches will be recognized for their performances in the regular season across 11 different categories.
Any defensive player born after September 22, 2000, and in their first ELF season is eligible for this award. This award is given to the best first-year defensive player. The winner has made a big impact on the field, showcasing great skills, effort, and potential throughout the season.
Let’s take a look at the nominees for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award:
Although the 2024 season wasn’t very successful for the Mercenaries, several players delivered impressive performances. One of those players is Pierre-Yves Mayo. The 23-year-old Majo has become a key part of the defensive line for the Swiss franchise this season. In his 12 games, Majo recorded 39 tackles, 7 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 1 pass breakup, and a forced fumble.
Araya Matilla established himself in the Bravos team from the start of the season and, despite being only 23 years old, started in 11 out of 12 games. He was a vital part of the team and contributed to the franchise’s playoff qualification in their debut year. Matilla recorded 99 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 4 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble return, helping his team to a strong debut season.
The young Austrian has shown tremendous development. Throughout the season, Terlitza became a starter in the talented Vienna Vikings roster and helped them go undefeated. Terlitza started in 7 out of 11 games, recording a total of 77 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, 1 pass breakup, and 1 fumble return, which are impressive stats.
On September 21, the winner of the award will be announced at the ELF Honors.
