As the European League of Football season heads into its decisive phase, the Stuttgart Surge are preparing for their Week 11 matchup against the Hamburg Sea Devils. Quarterback Reilly Hennessey, who has already thrown for 1,769 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, shared his thoughts on the team’s progress, their goals, and the challenges ahead.

Defense leading the way

The Surge are coming off a strong win against the Paris Musketeers, where their defense played a key role. Hennessey emphasized the importance of that performance: "Extremely crucial. I felt we played one of our few complete games of this year in all 3 phases. That's what we are striving for. When we play that way we are a hard team to beat."

With the playoffs on the horizon, the defense will need to keep up this level of play to support the team’s postseason push.

Red zone efficiency and offensive goals

While the Surge offense has been productive, Hennessey knows there’s room for improvement, especially in key situations. "We would like to leave the redzone with more touchdowns", he said. Turning those opportunities into points will be vital against strong opponents like the Sea Devils.

Personal and team goals

Individually, Hennessey is having an efficient season with only two interceptions so far. But for him, the focus is clear: "Win", he said when asked about his personal goals for the rest of the regular season.

He also addressed how the level of play in the ELF has developed since he joined: "I really like how even the top half of the league has become. The season is truly up for grabs and that speaks to the level of many teams increasing as the league has progressed."

Facing the Sea Devils again

The Surge beat Hamburg convincingly in Week 3, but Hennessey knows this rematch will be different. "Hamburg is a great team who has improved since that week 3 meeting. I am excited to go to battle once more vs their talented defense", he said.

For the Surge, this is not only a chance to solidify their position in the West Division but also to continue building momentum for the playoffs.

No pressure - Just opportunity

Despite the stakes, Hennessey rejects the idea of pressure being a burden. "Pressure? No. Pressure is a privilege that we are striving to earn. We feel like we have a lot to prove still, mostly to ourselves. This was a great step in the right direction", he explained, reflecting on the win over Paris and the mindset going forward.

Eyes on the big picture

With the ELF Championship Game taking place in Stuttgart this year, there’s an added motivation for the team to reach the final. But for now, Hennessey keeps the focus simple: "I am looking forward to playing this Hamburg team coming into town Sunday."
