Surge dominate Mercenaries, Seamen hold strong against Dragons

Stuttgart Surge (11-1) at Helvetic Mercenaries (1-11)

Final: 61-7

For the Stuttgart Surge, this game was still very important despite already securing a playoff spot. With a win, they could lock in the second playoff seed, which not only gives them a bye week in the Wildcard round but also home-field advantage in the semifinals.

Surge start strong

The Stuttgart Surge showed from the start how much they wanted the win, taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. The Surge defense ensured that the Mercenaries' offense never really got into the game. In the second quarter, the Surge truly showcased their dominance by adding another 34 points, leading to a 44-0 halftime score. This game highlighted the Surge's talent in all areas. They scored a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown, a punt return touchdown, and a pick-six, with offense, defense, and special teams all contributing to the commanding lead.

Victory never in doubt

The Surge remained in control throughout the second half, ensuring their 61-7 victory was never in jeopardy.

Thanks to this win, the Stuttgart Surge now head into a much-needed bye week, giving them time to gather strength for the final phase of the season before the semifinals. For the Mercenaries, the 2024 season is over, as they did not qualify for the playoffs.

Barcelona Dragons (2-10) at Milano Seamen (4-8)

Final: 36-57

Both the Milano Seamen and Barcelona Dragons had a turbulent season, but in Week 14, they played freely and delivered a high-scoring game. It was a closely contested match from the start, with 34 points scored in the first quarter and 51 in the entire first half. Although the Seamen kept the Dragons at a distance with consistent scoring, the Dragons never gave up and kept coming back. The connection between quarterback Grant Beucler and wide receiver Aymeric Guillemaud stood out, as they combined for 3 touchdowns. Beucler also added two more on his own.

Seamen stay cool under pressure

However, as the game entered the final phase, the Seamen remained the cooler team, extending their lead to 21 points, which the Dragons couldn’t close. The quarterback-wide receiver duo of Eystin Salum and Juan Flores Calderón stole the spotlight, combining for 284 yards and four touchdowns, playing a crucial role in the Seamen's victory.

Despite the win, both franchises’ seasons are over, as they did not qualify for the playoffs.
