Surge-Coach Neuman: "We were that close"

Stuttgart Surge looked a very long time on Sunday like the ones to go to the Championship Game 2024. They still led the Semifinal against Rhein Fire deep in the fourth quarter and were carried by an energetic defense and a frenetic crowd. But two interceptions turned the tides very late towards the 2023 Champions.

German television channel ProSieben spoke to Head Coach Jordan Neuman immediately after the game.

ProSieben: That was a tough loss. Give me your emotions.

Neuman: Yeah, it’s tough. Especially, when you have the feeling, you have the game so much in your hand. The guys played really great. Of course, a few mistakes cost us in the end. But that's a really tough defeat. We have to swallow that. We were that close. But we just couldn't bring it home.

ProSieben: When we look around we can see some of your players crying. Is this expressing how tough this defeat was?

Neuman: We worked so hard for it. We believed in ourselves so much and that's what you can see here now. The whole passion and heart, the friendship among the team-mates and the relationship with us coaches - it's more than just a game that we lost. Today it was about so much more. And it really hurts. We had the chance. But we didn't manage it.
