Sunday recap: Musketeers win Defense battle, Vikings too strong for Berlin

The early Sunday games kicked off a great day of football, leaving fans eager for more. The Paris Musketeers edged out the Madrid Bravos in a close game, while the Vienna Vikings had a clear victory over the Berlin Thunder.

Paris Musketeers (6-1) at Madrid Bravos (5-2) 29-13

From the start, it was a tough game, as both teams are part of the Western Conference and both had a 5-1 record. It was clear before the game that the winner would be the main competitor to Rhein Fire for the conference lead. By halftime, both sides had managed to score. Paris scored after a failed punt attempt by the Bravos, which they returned for a touchdown, along with a field goal. The Bravos scored with a strong throw from Duncan to wide receiver Willie Patterson. But it was the defenses that stood out, making it tough for both offenses to score. Both sides created turnovers and made big tackles.

The second half was similar, but the Paris Musketeers' offense, led by quarterback Zach Edwards, managed to score on their drives and protected the ball better. The Musketeers' defense also played well and scored a fumble return touchdown, sealing the game in favor of Paris. This win makes them the second-place team in the conference and the main competitor to Rhein Fire for the conference lead.

After this loss, the Bravos will play their next home game against the Cologne Centurions, while the Musketeers will face Rhein Fire in a top conference matchup.

Vienna Vikings (9-0) at Berlin Thunder (4-5) 34-9

In very warm football weather, the two teams played a good game. However, there was a clear difference in class. The Vikings played at a level that the Thunder couldn't match. At first, it looked like it could be a close game, but with a halftime lead of 17-6 for the Vikings, they stepped up, and the Thunder couldn't keep up.

Thus, the Vikings ensured that the game remained out of reach and created additional touchdowns to extend their lead. An interception by Sullivan, caught by Vikings defensive back Edwin Morales, further hurt the Thunder's chances. Even though their star wide receiver Aaron Jackson caught for over 100 yards and a touchdown, it wasn't enough.

Vikings' quarterback Ben Holmes was flawless and delivered the ball to 7 different targets, managing the game excellently until the end. Holmes finished with 253 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, showcasing his strong performance.

Next week, the Vikings will host the Prague Lions, while the Berlin Thunder will have their first bye week of the season.
