Sunday recap early games: Surge and Panthers win easily

In the early window of Sunday's slate, the Stuttgart Surge faced the Barcelona Dragons, while the Frankfurt Galaxy battled it out with the Panthers Wrocław. Let's take a look at both games!

Barcelona Dragons (10-1) at Stuttgart Surge (2-9)

Final: 0-56

In a one-sided game, the Stuttgart Surge put another exclamation mark on the playoff race. The German franchise dominated the Barcelona Dragons on both sides of the ball. The offense accumulated over 600 yards, Levin Liebenow and Kai Hunter each collected over 100 rushing yards and wide receiver Louis Geyer totaled 121 receiving yards.

Quarterback Reilly Hennessey remained flawless. He threw for 184 passing yards and three touchdowns. On defense, a lot of players put in a good day of work, safety Chad Walrond had two picks.

Meanwhile, the Dragons struggled mightily. They were able to pepper in some good plays through the air, but quarterback Grant Beucler also threw four interceptions.

The Surge will now turn their attention to the Rhein Fire game. Whether Stuttgart achieve a bye week in the playoffs and thus a direct place in the semi-finals also depends on Rhein Fire's results this week and next.

In the upcoming week, the Suttgart Surge will play against the Helvetic Mercenaries, while the Dragons will travel to Milano to play the Seamen.

Frankfurt Galaxy (4-7) at Panthers Wrocław (5-6)

Final: 19-54

Even though Galaxy and the Panthers are already out of the playoff race, this game offered a lot of excitement, with both teams looking to build some momentum for the upcoming season.

The Panthers' offense in particular deserves praise. Numerous creative play designs in the passing game as well as a running game that was difficult to stop made things hard on the Galaxy defense. For example, linebacker A.J. Wentland caught a touchdown pass.

On the ground, quarterback Josiah Norwood rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown, while also trowing for 176 passing yards and two touchdowns. Running back David Brzozowski ran for over 147 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side, Frankfurt Galaxy quarterback Matthew McKay suffered a knee injury. He had to leave the game early following a run. He was replaced by Moritz Maack, who did a decent job overall. However, he could not guide the Galaxy into the end zone. Frankfurt only scored three points in the second half. Both quarterbacks were often looking for wide receiver Markell Castle. The dynamic playmaker turned ten catches into 220 yards and a touchdown.

However, the Galaxy defense could not find a way to stop the Panthers offense consistently, thus making it hard for their offense to keep up.

Next week, the Panthers Wrocław will face the Prague Lions, Frankfurt will host the Paris Musketeers.
