Stuttgart Surge WR Louis Geyer: “This team has what it takes”
Do the 7-1 Stuttgart Surge really have what it takes to win it all this year?
The Stuttgart Surge did the impossible. After no wins in 2022, the German franchise was able to make a complete U-turn in 2023. The Surge head into the league’s general bye week with a winning-record (7-1).
”This team has what it takes,” German wide receiver Louis Geyer commented on Thursday. “From the players, to the coaches, to the staff, this team has one ultimate goal which is to win the championship.” But are the Surge ready to win the European League of Football in their first season in which they managed to achieve a positive record?
Geyer certainly believes that this is possible. “[Our record] is the result of hard-working players, coaches and staff that stick to the culture we have. A culture that is based on belief in each other and our system.” The young wide receiver also points at the fact that his team was down in various games but was able to fight its way back for the win. “There were some situations where we were behind and it looked like a bad situation, but we stuck with the gameplan and stuck to the things we know we can execute very well. The mentality that was established in Stuttgart is to go 1-0 every single week, which reminds us that the grind starts over again after every week and each game is as important as the other for us to go all the way.”
For now, the Surge have time to go over some mistakes and improve during the bye week. Geyer also thinks that his team will use the available time to go over certain mistakes and to be even better for the last four weeks of the regular season. “We have some stuff to clean up, but it is a great feeling going into the bye.”
However, the Surge were able to turn a losing franchise into a winning one. With only one win over two years, the Surge finally seem like they have figured it out. “It is a new era of surge football and a 180-degree change that has happened here. Everybody involved is working very hard to achieve that goal of ours and now we are trying to go 1-0 every week.” It will be interesting to see if they can go 1-0 against the Munich Ravens in Week 11 after the bye week.
