Stuttgart Surge sign former NFL wideout Damon Hazelton Jr.

The Stuttgart Surge are looking to fill the void left by injured WR Darrell Stewart Jr., who has been placed on injured reserve this week, with NFL experience: 27-year-old wide receiver Damon Hazelton will now line up as a wide receiver for the Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football. Damon Hazelton was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Houston Texans in 2021. After a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers, he returned to the Houston Texans and was active on the practice squad.

Damon Hazelton is looking forward to travelling to Germany: "Extremely excited for the opportunity, let’s work!"

A starter at the highest collegiate level

Hazelton began his college career at Ball State University in 2016, where he was immediately named Freshman of the Year. He then transferred to Virginia Tech, where he was named to the All-ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) team from 2018 to 2019. In 2020, he transferred to Missouri to join the Tigers, where he was a starter in NCAA Div. I (FBS) and caught 30 passes for 397 yards and one touchdown in 9 games. In his entire collegiate career, which has always been at the Division I level, he has totaled 2,231 yards and 21 touchdowns on 163 receptions.

For the Surge, the injury of Stewart Jr. hurts, as he has been one of the most reliable receivers - known for his performances in the playoffs and Championship Game of last year. The Surge now awaits the Milano Seamen at home.
