Stuttgart Surge relies on experienced DBs

Good news for the fans of Stuttgart Surge. The team will continue to rely on two experienced defensive backs next season. Lasse Engel and Konstantin Katz, both born in Stuttgart, have agreed new contracts.
Engel, who also has Danish roots, has been playing for Surge since 2023. He has already appeared in 25 games, recording 51 tackles and three interceptions. “It's a great honor to come back to play for my hometown and represent Stuttgart on the European stage for another season,” says Engel. The 27-year-old adds: “This team and organization is special, and I am proud to be a part of it once more.”
Before joining Surge, Engel played six years with the Stuttgart Scorpions. From 2018 to 2020, Engel played at the NCAA Div. I level with the San Diego State Aztecs in the USA, where he won the New Mexican Bowl in 2020.
Katz special motivation
Konstantin Katz will also remain with Surge. The 29-year-old made his ELF debut for Frankfurt Galaxy in 2022 before returning to his hometown of Stuttgart in 2023. “Trust in my teammates, trust in my coaches, trust in the organization and in the fans. That's how we're going to win everything!” Katz is confident about the upcoming season.
He also played for the Stuttgart Scorpions for many years before moving to Switzerland in 2020. He won the Swiss Bowl with the Calanda Broncos in 2021. He also wants to celebrate with Surge at the end of the season — at home. The 2025 Championship Game will take place in the MHP Arena in Stuttgart on September 7th.
