The Nordic Storm had the perfect start to their first ELF season. Their 56–12 win over the Helvetic Mercenaries showed their strength and strong team chemistry. But now, just days later, the team faces a huge challenge.

Serious injury for star running back

The team has announced that Glen Toonga suffered an Achilles tendon rupture during the game against the Mercenaries. The injury means that the 2024 ELF MVP will miss the entire season.

Toonga was one of the most dominant players in the league last year. He led the ELF in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, helping his former team and winning the Most Valuable Player award.

Team reaction to the loss

Michael Planeta, owner and interim GM of the Nordic Storm, shared what the loss of Toonga means: “Losing Glen for the season is not just sad for the Nordic Storm, it's sad for the entire league. Glen is a great football player and everyone in the league respects him — and in part fears him — for what he brings on game day. For us as a team the loss is not just on the field, it is also in the locker room, because as fierce a player as he is on the field, he is an even more fierce teammate. Losing the 2024 league MVP will, no matter how you look at it, be a big blow to any team.”

Next game without their MVP

The Nordic Storm will face the Wroclaw Panthers in Week 2 - their first game without Glen Toonga. Fans and experts will be watching closely to see how the team reacts on the field. Can they stay strong without one of their biggest stars?

One thing is clear: replacing a player like Glen Toonga won’t be easy.
