Saturday Recap: Milano wins in Barcelona, Raiders dominate in second half

Milano Seamen win a hard-fought game in Barcelona

The visiting Milano Seamen struck first as quarterback Zack Bronkhurst found receiver Juan Flores Calderon for an 80-yard touchdown down the right sideline in the second quarter. The Barcelona Dragons, however, answered quickly as quarterback Levi Lewis was able to connect with tight end Stephen McClusky and use his legs to move the chains. The drive was capped with a strong touchdown run from running back Charlamagne Take. Both teams missed their extra points making the score 6-6 at the half.

The game was a defensive struggle as linebacker Zachary Blair made several big stops for the Seamen, while Alex Posito and others stepped up for the Dragon's defense. Late in the third, Dragons quarterback Levi Lewis launched a long pass to find Imoni Donadelle for a touchdown taking the lead 13-6, as Barcelona missed the extra point once again.

Milano's defense struck next as Zachary Blair forced a fumble which was picked up and ran back for a touchdown by Seamen defensive back Federico Maffi. Former NFL kicker Giorgio Tavecchio hit the extra point to give Milano the narrowest of leads at 13-12.

Milano built on that lead early in the fourth quarter as Bronkhurst found newly signed running back Joc Crawford an impressive touchdown on a 56-yard catch and run. Later in the fourth, Bronkhurst took matters into his own hands taking off for two long runs. The second of which was a clutch touchdown giving the Seamen a 27-12 lead with just over 5 minutes left in the game.

The Seamen defense continued to dominate in the second half, getting the ball back to the Milano offense who were able to take several minutes off the clock. The Barcelona Dragons did score but it was a little too late as Levi Lewis found Aaron David in the endzone with zero seconds left in the game, making the final score 27-18 for the Milano Seamen.

Raiders Tirol dominate in the second half winning in Switzerland

After a sleepy first quarter that saw both teams trade punts, the underdog Helvetic Mercenaries were the first team to strike, as Nils Jonkman hit a long field goal to take a 3-0 lead. The Raiders answered as new quarterback N'Kosi Perry found Darrion Chafin and Marco Schneider leading the team down the field. The drive was capped off by a short running touchdown from tailback Lucas Haslwanter.

On the next Raiders punt, Mercenaries return man Nazir Streater burst past several would-be tacklers for a 40-yard punt return. Helvetic capitalized as quarterback Carlton Aiken Jr ran for a touchdown just a few plays later giving them a 10-7 lead.

Perry and the Raiders, did take the lead back before halftime as he found receiver Felix Reitter for a 20-yard touchdown, making the score 14-10 at the mid-way point.

Late in the third quarter, Perry found the endzone again, this time using his feet for an 11-yard touchdown run making the score 20-10 after the Raiders extra point was blocked. Running back Tobias Bonnati gave the Raiders some insurance scoring on a short touchdown run to make the score 27-10.

The Raiders defense stepped up next as Patrick Pilger intercepted Carlton Aiken Jr putting the lid on any potential comeback. Afterwards, running back Tobias Bonnati and the Raiders offense began to run down the clock by keeping the ball on the ground. They eventually scored as Bonnatti ran for his second touchdown, making the final score 34-10.
