Saturday recap late games: Vikings perfect, Raiders march, Ravens fight
With both teams still hoping to get a ticket for the postseason, the main focus in the late window was on the duel between the Raiders Tirol (who hosted the Milano Seamen) and Munich Ravens (who went up against the Helvetic Mercenaries). Meanwhile, the Vienna Vikings were looking to continue their perfect season.
Final: 0:30
The Raiders Tirol keep their chance of making the playoffs in the long-distance duel with the Munich Ravens.
The Austrians achieved a clear victory against Milano Seaman.
The strong connection between Raider quarterback N'Kosi Perry and wide receiver Cinque Sweeting put the Raiders on course early with two touchdowns. The duo finished with 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Sweeting. The strong offense was complemented by a productive Lukas Haslwanter. The actual backup running back contributed 101 yards on the ground.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Seaman tried to get back into the game. However, a blocked fiel goald handed the momentum right back to the Raiders, who were able to get away early. The Italians didn't really get much going. Also thanks to a strong Raiders defense.
The visiting team is hoping for improvement in week 14 against the Barcelona Dragons. For the Raiders, the final showdown is against the Munich Ravens. A head-to-head battle for the playoffs.
Final: 38:13
After the dominant victory in the previous week, the Munich Ravens were expected to take another comfortable win. But the Mercenaries made it much more difficult for the favorites for a long time. In the end, however, the Swiss lacked their own coolness in attack.
Also thanks to a strong Munich defense, which brought a lot of pressure with their pass rush. Led by a strong Johannes Zirngibl, who alone caused two sacks and a loss of 63 yards. Not an easy day for Mercenaries quarterback DeAndre Clayton, who totaled 259 passing yards and two touchdowns for the game. The Swiss team's best receiver was youngster Milan Spiller with 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Ravens started the game slowly. However, clever adjustments at half-time had an effect and resulted in a deserved victory. After his gala performance last week, quarterback Chad Jeffries made no notable mistakes and scored a total of four touchdowns - three on the ground and one through the air.
Thanks to the win, the Ravens secure their chance of making the playoffs. Those will be decided next week in a direct duel with rival Raiders Tirol. The game will take place in Munich. The Mercenaries' upcoming opponent is Stuttgart Surge.
Final: 0:46
The Vienna Vikings did it. For the second time in a row, they did not lose a single game in the regular season. Overall, too harmless Fehervar Enthroners fought for nothing.
Led by a strong Ben Holmes, the Vikings strolled to another victory. The quarterback ended up with 317 passing yards and four touchdowns. In the meantime, he continued to feed receiver Reece Horn, who extended his lead at the top of the ELF in receiving yards. The US import caught 140 yards in today's game and also scored two touchdowns.
Running back Karri Pajarinen is also among the league leaders. At the beginning of the first quarter, he bulldozed his way into the end zone and got his team on track early. The Finn also scored a touchdown on top of his 60 rushing yards.
The Vikings defense allowed nothing and gave the Enthroners a tough game. In the end, the Hungarians went home with 208 total offensive yards but no points.
Next week they will play their final game of the season against the Cologne Centurions. The Vikings can recharge their batteries before the playoffs in their second bye-week and look back on a perfect regular season. The win also secures them the #1 seed for the playoffs.
