Saturday recap late games: High-scoring affairs!

The late window of games on Saturday offered plenty of excitement, including one German and one Spanish matchup. Let's take a closer look!

Cologne Centurions (2-4) at Frankfurt Galaxy (2-4) 35-28

In the duel between the two German franchises, the Centurions narrowly came out as the winner. In a matchup peppered with highlights on both sides of the ball, one could quickly use track of all that was happening on the field.

The Centurions opted for a run-intensive approach, as quarterback Isaiah Weed (85 rushing yards) and running backs Gerald Ameln (87 yards) and Emil Fuchs (72 yards) each carried the rock over ten times.

Through the air, Weed completed 20 of his 36 passes for 228 yards and zero touchdowns. The veteran also threw two interceptions, with one of them coming in the final minutes of the game, giving Galaxy another shot on offense. On defense, cornerback Bijan Harris showed his talents for the Centurions, as he forced a fumble and intercepted a pass.

Meanwhile, Galaxy quarterback Matthew McKay, who was signed this week, made a good first impression. He completed 22 of his 38 passes for a touchdown and an interception. With the game winding down, he was not able to find a receiver on fourth down near the Centurions' endzone. On defense, linebacker Hugo Dyrendahl had a great game, as he collected 18 tackles and an interception.

Next week, the Centurions will face the Hamburg Sea Devils. Galaxy will play against Rhein Fire.

Helvetic Mercenaries (1-6) at Vienna Vikings (8-0) 40-49

What a game! On paper, this duel looked like a clear-cut affair before kick-off. Although the Vikings ultimately won 49-40, the Helvetic Mercenaries put up a fighting performance. On the Mercenaries' side, quarterback Carlton Aiken Jr. had a great day. The signal-caller completed 29 of his 44 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns. However, he also threw two interceptions.

As a runner, he collected 85 yards and a touchdown. In the passing game, he particularly enjoyed throwing to Milan Spiller and Anthony Brown. Both broke the 100-yard mark with ease, with Spiller also catching two touchdowns and collecting 200 receiving yards in total.

Many of the Vikings' players also stood out positively. Quarterback Ben Holmes completed 22 of his 33 passes for 4 touchdowns, but also threw an interception. He often looked for wide receiver Reece Horn, who amassed three touchdowns and 145 receiving yards.

In an open exchange of punches, the Vikings defense was able to get a few more stops, especially from their dangerous pass rush. Ultimately, neither team "deserved" the loss in an entertaining matchup.

Next week, the Mercenaries will travel to Munich to face the Ravens, whilst the Vikings will also make the trip to Germany to play against Berlin Thunder.

Madrid Bravos (5-1) at Barcelona Dragons (2-6) 54-0

Clear-cut affair in the Spanish duel! The Madrid Bravos gave the Barcelona Dragons no chance and won 54-0. The Barcelona Dragons, who underwent a major squad and coaching shake-up during the week, were visibly lacking in cohesiveness.

Steven Duncan, quarterback for the Bravos, spread the ball around, finding numerous receivers and finishing the game with 217 yards and four touchdowns. Duncan also threw one interception. Meanwhile on the ground, D'Wayne Obi and Edu Molina ran behind a strong offensive line. Both players ran for over 50 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Madrid stopped the Dragons' offense in its tracks. The run defense hardly allowed any space to be gained and Barcelona rarely found an open receiver in the passing game.

Next week, the Bravos will host the Paris Musketeers in a great matchup between to ambitious franchises. The Dragons get a much-needed bye week, as they are looking to regroup after tumultuous weeks.
