Hope despite a missing piece
The Frankfurt Galaxy dressed up in Hungary without franchise quarterback Jakeb Sullivan. Finding solutions was always something the team of Thomas Kösling was good at. With 216 yards rushing and 215 yards passing, the Frankfurt Galaxy dominated the Enthroners in every quarter. Lars Heidrich, backup quarterback of Sullivan, threw for three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Running back Thomas Fischbach had a day himself with three touchdowns. Jerod Evans, on the other side, threw for one touchdown and ran for another – being the focal point of the offense. Offensive line work of the Enthroners kept the Enthroners away from success to lose the second game 48-13.
Mixed feelings in Prague
Winning in total yards doesn’t always mean winning the game. But controlling the clock does. In 37 minutes of possession, the Centurions fatigued their opponent. Offensively, Terryon Robinson and Gerald Ameln helped the Centurions to execute, even though the Lions’ defensive side tried their best to get into the backfield. Both teams have to work on timing and execution. Prague Lions start their season with 0-2 in a 14-23-loss.
Comeback from a drought
The Stuttgart Surge played their first game of the season against the 1-0 Paris Musketeers at the Stade-Jean-Bouin. The dynamic of the game was an unusual one. Both defenses showed what they were capable of, only to then give up big plays in key situations. The Paris Musketeers came out aggressive, playing out multiple 4th down conversions, instead of opting out to kick a field goal. Both teams were dependent on their wide receiver groups to make plays and especially the Surge was able to capitalize on their unit, with Moritz Böhringer, Yannick Mayr and Louis Geyer breaking free for big yardage. Paris tried to start a late comeback in the fourth quarter, but the offense was not able to get back from the nine-point deficit. Mitch Fettig sealed the game when he picked off Zach Edwards with less than a minute to go, securing the 29-20 win.
From underdog to competitor?
The Barcelona Dragons found themselves winning for a second time in a row. A solid defensive and offensive performance helped the Dragons against the Milano Seamen. While Luke Zahradka was able to beat the Dragons’ secondary with multiple deep bombs, big plays on the side of Barcelona kept the Seamen short of reaching their full potential. Always when you thought the Seamen could come back, the Dragons found a way to pull off a punch in the gut. A forced fumble by Benjamin Egbudiwe sealed the deal for the 41-33-walk-off win on the Dragons’ side.
