"Roommate battle" - Surge-star Walrond reveals: "We haven't spoken all week"
A thrilling Semifinal weekend is behind us. In exciting matches, the Vienna Vikings and Rhein Fire secured their spots in the Championship Game on September 22nd at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
The Semifinal game between Stuttgart Surge and Rhein Fire (23:29) was a very special one for Surge safety Chad Walrond and Fire running back Glen Toonga. The two players share an apartment in London. The roommates now faced each other in the ELF Semifinal.

"A really emotional one", as Walrond revealed in an interview with German television channel ProSieben after the game. Asked about his roommate Toonga, he said: "He's my brother. We haven't spoken all week. We weren't friends on the pitch today, but I love him."
Walrond had a good game and put his team on the supposed winning track with an interception touchdown. But it was not enough. A field goal seconds before the end was enough for Rhein Fire to secure the overtime and the following victory.
"A tough loss", Walrond admits in the interview after the game. "We played for all the people in this organization. It's not just about us, we have a bigger goal, and so it hurts to lose here today", he added.
Nevertheless, he wishes his former opponent and now once again beloved roommate Toonga all the best for the final: "I hope he wins the title."
