#RoadToDuisburg: Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena

A real gem awaits the fans of the European League of Football on September 24. While Rhein Fire fans already know the stadium from the last and the current season, for many new fans the Championship Game stadium could be a great experience.

The former MSV-Arena or Wedaustadion was built in 1921 and rebuilt between 2003 and 2005 during normal operation. In 2010, it was converted to the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. Before that, the old MSV stadium had - typical for stadiums of the 1920s - a distinctive athletics track. The stadium could accommodate 40,000 people. This made it the second-largest sports facility in Germany for some time, behind today's Berlin Olympic Stadium. With now a total capacity of 31,500 thousand spectator seats, it’s the home stadium of the soccer club MSV Duisburg and the American Football Club and franchise Rhein Fire.

The stadium and its surroundings

205 meters long and 165 meters wide, the Stadium can be transformed into a boiling pot in a minute. On August 28, 2005, the arena was sold out for the first time in a Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and the MSV Duisburg.

It’s located in the 200-hectare big Sportpark Duisburg, which also includes a regatta track, a swimming stadium, and an ice rink. It’s therefore one of the biggest in Germany. Fun fact: The arena has its own chapel, so fans can get married or baptized before or after a game.

With public transportation, you can get to the arena via the S1, U79 or Busses 934, 939, or 944. Via car, you can reach the Sportpark from all cardinal points. A journey you should not miss!
