#RoadToDuisburg: A city with tradition
Chris Hahn

Once a strategically important geographical location, the city at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers now serves as one of the biggest river ports worldwide. As the biggest steel location in Germany and the second largest in the world, the city is home to diverse citizens with one third of its population having an migration history just like many players and fans of our American football community in Europe. Over 450 sport clubs are registered in Duisburg, with the Duisburg Vikings providing a place to play American football for U10 to U19 levels.
Home to the best football in Germany?
The federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia is home to more than 80 American football clubs and over 13,500 members. Even more impressive is the fact that the state championship of Germany already was won eleven times by the “Green Machine”, the youth team combining the best talent in North Rhine-Westphalia.
As a talent-rich region, the youth final of Germany is being hosted on August 27th in Düsseldorf, before the ELF Championship Game takes place in Duisburg on September 24. A region made for high class American football.
