Revenge! Lions with first season-victory against Enthroners
Final: 9:6
The streak is broken - the Prague Lions wins their first game of the season. After the clear 38-6 defeat against the Fehérvár Enthroners in the last meeting, the Lions managed to get their revenge. Meanwhile, the Enthroners have to be careful that their season doesn't end disastrously. Both teams miss the playoffs for sure, but still want to finish the season in style.
In a hard-contested match, the first points were not scored until shortly before half-time. A minute after the two-minute warning, Lions QB Perkins Jr. fired a long pass to Travier Fields-Jackson, who previously had been targeted many times. The receiver, who had only received short passes before, returned the pass for a total of 80 yards and the 7-0 halftime lead for the visitors.
Earlier, both defenses stopped the opponent with a turnover shortly before their own end zone. In the first quarter, the Lions gave away a potential lead with a fumble. In the second quarter, Enthroners' quarterback John Thomas Mangel threw his first interception of the game. Two more followed.
After halftime, the Enthroners found the right answer in a long drive. Running back Levente Tóth catches a short pass on his out-route. However, kicker Zsombor Sarok missed the extra point and the equalizer.
The Lions' good special team work also made it difficult for the home team to come back. After a long punt in the third quarter, the Enthroners' offense had its back to the wall. The following bad snap resulted in a safety and the Lions were able to extend their lead.
The visitors' defense also had a good day. Although they allowed a total of 14 first downs, they were on the spot in the crucial moments. Their opponent was only able to convert four of their 16 3rd downs into a new 1st down. The defense repeatedly forced the Enthroners to punt and caused three sacks and five turnovers. Painful for the opponent. Who was rarely able to finish his drives.
In the end, the good connection between QB Perkins and receiver Fields-Jackson brought the Lions the long-awaited victory. The wideout contributed 113 receiving yards and the important touchdown. Perkins scored 169 passing yards and one touchdown. As usual, the agile signal caller also repeatedly tried to integrate himself into the Czechs' run game. Unlike the previous week, when he ran for 61 yards and a touchdown against the Munich Ravens, he didn't score any points on the ground this time.
However, he and his team should not really care after their important first win of the season 2024.
The Lions head into their second bye week in Week 13, while the Fehérvár Enthroners will face the Vienna Vikings.
