When the Paris Musketeers confirmed the return of quarterback Zach Edwards for the 2026 season, many fans were reminded of a special period in ELF history - a time when Edwards led some of the league’s most explosive offenses, often with Kyle Sweet as one of his most trusted and dynamic playmakers.
Even though Sweet retired before the 2024 season, the memories of their connection in Barcelona and Paris remain unforgettable, and his influence on the growth of passing offenses across the league continues to stand out.

A duo that helped shape an era

Before Edwards took a break in 2025, he had already delivered some of the ELF’s most dynamic offensive performances - first with Kyle Sweet during their time with the Barcelona Dragons and later the Paris Musketeers, before forming another strong partnership with Austin Mitchell in the 2024 season.
In both 2022 and 2023, Sweet became one of the league’s most productive playmakers, turning short passes into explosive gains and consistently finding space in defenses across Europe. His chemistry with Edwards helped establish fast, high-scoring offenses that became must-watch football - but it was Sweet’s individual talent, route running, and reliability that made him stand out as one of the league’s best.

From California to Washington State - A reliable playmaker emerges

Sweet’s football journey began at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, where he played multiple positions before fully developing into a wide receiver. His strong performances earned him several regional honors and a place at Washington State University, where he spent four seasons in Mike Leach’s well-known Air Raid system.

Across 50 college games, he became a versatile contributor - catching passes, returning punts, and even handling punting duties - and played an important role in bowl victories such as the Sun Bowl and the Alamo Bowl under quarterback Gardner Minshew.

A professional path that led to Europe

After taking part in rookie minicamps with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019 and preparing for a potential opportunity in the XFL, Sweet eventually moved to Europe, joining the Kirchdorf Wildcats in the GFL.
His true breakthrough came in 2022, when he signed with the Barcelona Dragons in the European League of Football. That year, he became the league’s most dominant receiver, finishing the season with more yards, receptions, and touchdowns than any other player in the ELF at the time.

His records did not stand forever - the receiving yards record he set in 2022 was broken the following year by Markell Castle, and later again by Aron Cruickshank. Cruickshank also surpassed Sweet’s single-season receptions mark as well as his single-season touchdown record during the 2025 campaign.
But records being broken does not diminish Sweet’s impact - it proves how he helped raise the standard of play and inspired the next generation of ELF superstars.

A final stop in Paris - and a strong legacy

In late 2022, Sweet joined the Paris Musketeers, returning to Europe’s capital cities alongside Edwards. Despite a slow start to the 2023 season, he became a central figure in the offense once again, showcasing the precise route running and playmaking ability that had made him famous in Barcelona.

Sweet retired from professional football in January 2024, ending a career that left a clear mark on the European scene. His time in the ELF delivered memorable highlights for fans across the continent and played a part in raising the overall standard of offensive play in the league.

Today, as preparations for the 2026 season are underway, the legacy of Kyle Sweet remains - a reminder of one of the most exciting quarterback–receiver duos the ELF has seen, a connection that thrilled football fans across Europe and helped elevate the league’s passing game during its early years.
