Prague Lions sign Javarian Smith as new QB1

The Prague Lions have found their new starting quarterback. US-import Javarian Smith, who most recently played for the Hamburg Sea Devils, will take over for the Czechs.

"Feels good to be back home in Prague!", says Smith, who already played for the Prague Black Panthers in 2022. He continues: Thank you, god, for every moment of this journey. I'm blessed with the opportunity to represent the city of Prague in the ELF. Grateful to coach Warner and coach Disch for their trust. Let's get to work - brick by brick."

The 28-year-old should therefore bring stability to the playmaker position. Last season, this position was shared by Anthony Perkins and Karé Lyles, but both were not entirely convincing.

Smith started last season with the Sea Devils. In five ELF games, he put up decent performances with 84 passes for 1140 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. However, his passing accuracy of just over 50 percent was not enough to keep his job. In the middle of the season, he was replaced by D'Angelo Fulford.

Big challenges with the Lions

Before his time in the European League of Football, he played for the Allgäu Comets, where he impressed with his strong physique and his arm. He threw for 44 touchdowns and 3494 yards in 12 games and added nine more scores via the run.

He also attended Lake Erie College in his home country. Here he graduated with a degree in sports management.

A fresh start now awaits Smith at the Lions. However, the challenge will not be a small one. The Lions had major difficulties last season. Together with the new Lions head coach Dave Warner, Smith has to breathe new life into his new offense and team.

More additions

To adequately protect Smith, the Lions have also signed a new offensive lineman. Luca Soares da Silva will wear the jersey of the Czechs next season. The 24-year-old Brazilian made his ELF debut for the Milao Seamen last season. "Very happy to be part of the Lions Family!", says Soares da Silva.

For the defense, the contract of D-linemen Daniel Pohořalý has also been extended. The 30-year-old Homegrown is about to enter his second season with the Lions.
