Possible end of season for Matthew McKay - medical tests still pending

Midway through the second quarter, a play by the Frankfurt Galaxy caused major concern when quarterback Matthew McKay remained on the ground after a run. After several minutes on the field, McKay was taken away in an ambulance with what appeared to be a serious leg injury. However, further details are not yet available.

McKay's season could be over, also because the Galaxy have already missed the playoffs and therefore have nothing more to risk.

A longer injury would be bad news for the quarterback, who wanted to recommend himself in the ELF. And equally bad news for the Galaxy, who had to reconsider their game plan against the Panthers. Up to now, this had mainly involved passing.

Galaxy surprisingly sticks to gameplan

Backup Moritz Maack had to continue against the Panthers. The homegrown player is considered talented, but accordingly did not got many reps with the starting lineup during his week as a backup. In such a case, most teams tend to switch to the running game to take the pressure off the quarterback. The Galaxy coaches chose a different approach. Not a bad idea. Ultimately, they were up against the best rushing defense in the league.

In the very first snap after the injury interruption, Maack fired a laser beam pass for 35 yards to wideout Kevin Kaya. A statement that the new quarterback was not afraid of the game. In the end, the 27-year-old completed half of his passes for a total of 278 yards. But Maack was unable to avoid the clear 19:56 defeat.

It remains to be seen whether Maack or Matthew McKay will lead the Galaxy again in the next game against the Paris Musketeers.
