The Paris Musketeers have found their new WR1. Former Dresden Monarch Austin Mitchell will take Kyle Sweet’s spot on the French team.

Outstanding collegiate career

Austin Mitchell grew up in Plaquemine, Louisiana, where he attended the local high school. He is the nephew of three-time NFL All-Pro Brian Mitchell, who is regarded as one of the best return specialists to ever take the field. After graduating, Mitchell committed to Southeastern Louisiana University, a Division I FCS school.

He redshirted his freshman year and played in every game as a redshirt freshman the following year. Despite an injury-ridden 2018 season, Mitchell showed promise and lived up to it in 2019. As a redshirt sophomore, the speedy receiver proved to be a dangerous deep threat, catching 57 passes for 896 yards and eight touchdowns, making the All-Conference team.

Mitchell continued to dominate over the next two seasons, earning a spot on the All-Conference team in his junior and senior seasons. He left the school with 170 receptions for 2735 yards and 24 touchdowns, ranking first in program history in receiving yards and 100-yard games, and second in catches and touchdowns.

Dominating Europe

Mitchell signed with the Dresden Monarchs prior to the 2023 season and picked up right where he left off. He led the GFL with 94 catches for 1627 yards and ranked second with 20 touchdowns. Additionally, he returned nine kickoffs for 199 yards and eight punts for 74 yards. Dresden made it to the semi-final, where they lost 30-36 against the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
In Paris, the former college star is playing with one of the ELF's best quarterbacks. Will he be able to deliver the season that Kyle Sweet was expected to achieve last year?
