Panthers sign new starting QB Demarcus Irons
Quarterback sensation at the Wroclaw Panthers. With Demarcus “DJ” Irons, fans can look forward to a new playmaker next season. The US import has signed until the end of December 2025 and will probably continue a familiar quarterback style of play.
Like his forerunners, Irons is also good on his feet and therefore a dual-threat quarterback. Born in the US state of Georgia, he started his football career at Grayson High School. He also played basketball and did athletics there.
He then attended Iowa Central Community College, where he received several awards. In 2019, for example, he was named the best offensive player in his conference. He later transferred to the Akron Zips - the University of Akron.
During his time with the Zips, the tall signal caller recorded 4219 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in three years. He also had 825 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
"DJ is an extremely fierce and very capable quarterback who poses a threat not only with his passing game, but also with his running game. We are very excited that he is the one joining our organization", said Panthers head coach Craig Kuligowski about the transfer. He adds: "He displays qualities beyond the scale of most of the quarterbacks we have seen throughout the ELF league in the 2024 season. In addition, he is a very humble and willing player, showing considerable physical as well as mental toughness. We will work hard together to get to the highest level of play together and keep him in every game of the season.”
Jakub Samel, responsible for scouting and player development in the Panthers structure, explains: "DJ Irons caught our attention not only with his game but also with what kind of person he is off the field. In his career he has already had the opportunity to play matches at a high level, against very demanding opponents. Off the field he has gained the trust of his teammates as a leader, which resulted in his election to the position of captain. His game also shows determination regardless of the situation and a great desire to win, which will fit perfectly with the mentality of our organization and how we function."

Irons himself describes the decision-making process as follows: “First I searched for some information about the country itself and the Panthers organization, and then I contacted coaches and players who have already had the opportunity to work with the Panthers - this strongly facilitated my decision that the Panthers is the right choice!”
In Wroclaw, he is intended as a starter and should bring clarity to the position. After three game days last season, Josiah Norwood took over the QB position from John Uribe. Now, Irons will be in the lead.
