Official statement of the European League of Football on the Leipzig Kings 2023
The Leipzig Kings will not participate in the league’s competition for the remainder of the 2023 season. The ownership group missed the European League of Football’s deadline of today, Wednesday, 12 p.m., and chose not to disclose its financial situation as well as a maintainable plan. Thus, the league lacked the necessary basis to seriously assess the situation and work with the owner group on a short-term continuation of the game operation.
The license to participate in the European League of Football was therefore withdrawn from the franchise as announced. All players from the roster are listed as free agents and can be signed by other franchises with immediate effect, provided their contracts have been terminated by the Leipzig Kings. The Competition Committee of the European League of Football will promptly decide on the valuation of the games already played by the Leipzig Kings in the course of the 2023 season to date.
The European League of Football deeply regrets the development, but firmly believes in Leipzig as a location and the fan potential in the region and will immediately begin talks with potential new owners. The clear goal is for Leipzig to once again participate in the European League of Football with a team under new leadership in the 2024 season.
