More diversity for the league! The Hamburg Sea Devils sign Karin Tries as Assistant Defensive Backs Coach for the upcoming season of the European League of Football. This makes the 24-year-old native of Aachen the first female coach of a German franchise in the European League of Football. The other female coach, Monica Rafecas, has worked with Quarterback Zach Edwards in Barcelona. The Hamburg native will support Defensive Backs Coach Kenneth Flanders in his work with the pass defense, bringing her own playing experience to coaching.

Milestone for European football, but way more room to improve

This is another milestone in the European League of Football. "How many women play football in Germany? How many female coaches are in the higher levels football? I don't want women's football and women in football in general to continue to be ignored. That's why I'm very grateful to have the chance to develop with the Hamburg Sea Devils and appreciate the respect I received from the coaches as well as players during my first training sessions. I hope to have many highlights coming my way."

Tries has been active in American football with the Hamburg Pioneers as a player since 2016, securing the North German Championship with the "Amazons" as a defensive back in 2017 and the German Flag Championship with the "Snappers" in 2018. Before that, she was active in several other sports from a young age. In football, she found her best and biggest task so far.

"Karin Tries is another good example of Hamburg football, which has been producing both great players and coaching talent for years and has a lot of potential. We are proud to have her as the first German coach in the league and look forward to a successful future," Max Paatz, General Manager, explains optimistically.
