Munich Ravens release HC John Shoop and DC Vince Okruch

In a surprising move, the Munich Ravens decided to part ways with head coach John Shoop and defensive coordinator Vince Okruch, despite being the most successful expansion franchise of the season. The Ravens' offense looked sharp under Shoop, ranking second in the league in every major category. Under Okruch, the defense struggled to produce early, but got into a small rhythm later in the season, overall ranking 14th in total defense and 15th against the pass.

"Different views on the vision"

Sebastian Stolz, General Manager of the Munich Ravens, comments on the decision not to extend John Shoop's contract: "We have been intensively dealing with the athletic path we want to take in the future for several weeks now. We have analyzed the last few months in detail and had many discussions. It became clear that the franchise management and John Shoop have different views on the vision and sporting direction of the Munich Ravens. For this reason, we came to the difficult decision not to offer John Shoop a new contract. We thank him very much for his hard work, tireless dedication and passion. He played a huge part in our strong debut season and will forever be a part of Munich Ravens history. We wish him and his family all the best in the future."

New coaching staff in 2024

"Like Coach Shoop, Vince Okruch has coached with a lot of passion and ambition," said Munich's general manager. "We thank him for his work and great dedication and wish him every success in the future."

Sean Shelton, Director Sports on the next steps: "We have already immediately started the search for a new Head Coach. We firmly believe that the Munich Ravens are an exciting and attractive address in European football and expect to be able to present a successor soon." If the new offensive coordinator can bring the same production as Shoop did, is now up for grabs. In 2024, some coaching positions will look different from 2023, with Shoop certainly being one of the most sought after coaches.
