The Helvetic Mercenaries are entering the second half of the 2025 European League of Football season with renewed momentum. Under the motto "If something doesn’t fit, make it fit", the Swiss franchise has restructured its personnel setup and is approaching the coming weeks with fresh energy and a clear focus.
A key element of this restart is the change on the sidelines: Joshua Fitzgerald has officially taken over as head coach. The experienced American brings not only a new dynamic to the team but also a clear vision for unlocking its potential on the field.
"We are starting fresh"
"I want to thank owners Sonja and Sandro Moor and the entire Helvetic family for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to build on the foundation of this team. We’re not starting from scratch, but we are starting fresh - with a clear goal in mind. I’m excited to deliver a product you can be proud of. Now it’s time to defend our home stadium and create a turnaround together", said Fitzgerald.
The chance to spark that turnaround comes this Sunday, when the Paris Musketeers visit the Lidl Arena in Wil. The French team has been one of the league’s strongest so far this season. For the Mercenaries, it’s a tough test and also the start of an exciting football summer in eastern Switzerland: four consecutive home games await the team and their fans.

"We are working hard to strengthen our roster"
To prepare for the second half of the season, the Mercenaries are actively reinforcing their roster, with additional signings expected in the coming days. "We are working hard to strengthen our roster with high-quality, experienced players - both national and international. More names will be added very soon. We will be competitive - our fans can count on that”, said sporting director Jeremy Bryson.
The spotlight will be on quarterback Josiah Norwood, who has already shown flashes of promise, and wide receiver Keelan Cole, a former NFL standout known for his explosive playmaking. Head coach Fitzgerald plans to integrate both even more closely into the team’s offensive system. Their connection could be key to driving the team's turnaround.
The stage is set for four home games full of energy, emotion, and action: July 6 vs. Paris, July 12 vs. the Munich Ravens, July 20 vs. Bravos Madrid, and July 27 vs. the Prague Lions. Each game kicks off at 1:00 p.m., with free-entry pre-game parties starting at 11:00 a.m. offering fun for the whole family. Free parking is available around the Lidl Arena.
