Matchups to watch at Fire vs Surge

As in every game, there are key matchups between position groups in the semifinals that could decide the outcome. Let’s take a look at the matchups to watch in the Fire vs. Surge game.

Glen Toonga vs. Stuttgart defensive line

Glen Toonga seems nearly unstoppable, but the Stuttgart Surge must find a way to limit the best running back in the league. What the Surge have shown so far this season gives them reason for hope. They have the second-best rushing defense in the league and have proven multiple times how difficult it is to run against them.

Jadrian Clark vs. Surge defensive backs

In last year’s Championship Game, the Surge tried to take Toonga out of the game, forcing Jadrian Clark to beat them. However, Clark delivered an outstanding performance, distributing the ball at an elite level. But this season, the Surge's defensive backfield is much stronger and currently ranks first in interceptions. If the Surge try the same game plan as last year, it will be interesting to see how Clark performs against these new defensive backs.

Rhein Fire defensive line vs. Surge offensive line

Rhein Fire’s defense is one of the most disciplined in the league, especially their defensive line, which executes game plans perfectly. They were the only team to effectively control Zach Edwards, the quarterback of the Paris Musketeers. Like Edwards, Reilly Hennessey also excels in the running game, using his legs to pick up first downs or score touchdowns in short-yardage situations. It will be exciting to see how Fire plans to handle Hennessey and the Surge offensive line, which has been solid so far. Hennessey often has plenty of time to find his receivers and is one of the least-sacked quarterbacks in the league.
