Marc Mattioli: „A reason for us not having the first half season we wanted to”
Can the Paris Musketeers be satisfied with their results at the end of their first season? Having managed to win close games, but failing to reach the playoffs right away, there is a disconnect in the story of the first-year-program. Marc Mattioli, who joined the franchise as a head coach, shares a split review on his team.
As the first ever French ELF-franchise, there are challenges the young team and its head coach had to face: “I think that any time you have the spotlight on you […] that was a reason for us not having the first half of the season we wanted to. Because of the fact that we hadn’t built that culture yet of not paying attention to what everybody else says, probably did have an effect on us!”, Mattioli said in the latest episode of the official ELF podcast.
Looking at the beginning of the season, the head coach does not seem happy about the results, but rather the way the team adjusted when adversity hit. “These guys stayed together. When I talk about culture and building that. What we have now compared to what we didn’t [have] at the beginning of the year, players deserve the credit for that. They have been the ones that have hung in and blocked out what has been said on the outside. Kept showing up and kept improving and built something special. I am proud to be the head coach of the team.”
A positive journey that could continue for Mattioli and his team, ending the season on a positive note.
