Lenny Krieg, former Stuttgart Surge kicker in the European League of Football, is still a candidate for a spot in an NFL squad. He signed a Reserve/Futures contract with the New York Jets at the beginning of the year. NFL teams use this type of contract to retain players for the upcoming offseason. Players with this type of contract are not allowed to negotiate with other teams.

Krieg spent his last season with the Atlanta Falcons, where he did not make it past the practice squad. But for international players, development pathways often take time, especially at a position as competitive as kicker.

Nick Folk moves to Atlanta - a chance for Lenny Krieg?

The former ELF kicker had entered the NFL through the International Pathway Program and, among other things, had made a 57-yard field goal in the preseason. That generated quite a bit of attention, though apparently not enough to give him a chance to play in Atlanta.

Now Krieg is in New York, where the starting kicker, Nick Folk, has just signed a new contract, moving to Atlanta. So the Jets' kicking lineup will be reshuffled. Krieg will then hopefully get another chance to prove himself.
